Round 69 Transcript
Episode 1 · Episode Round 1

At bathroom in a New York high rise penthouse suite, the pressure shifts from waiting to immediate risk. The ward answers the party's presence with a fresh pulse through the stone and no one can mistake it for safety. The nearest sign of danger is now structural collapse imminent. Someone has to answer that change now.
The wardstone's pulse answers the building like a struck gong—this thing wants to end us all together. I catch Jeane's eyes as she holds Hera back from the door, sees my own fear reflected there. This isn't heroism or grand sacrifice territory. It's pragmatic survival. If we don't move that stone soon, this penthouse becomes our coffin. The groaning overhead isn't metaphor—wood and metal are tearing free upstairs. Water laps at our ankles now, not from the shower but from somewhere deeper in the plumbing. I reach for my belt pouch, fingers closing around a handful of lockpicks and a thin blade. "We need to move that stone," I say, voice tight. "Before this building decides it's had enough of us."
I grab Hera's shoulders, pull her eyes from the floor up to mine. "Do not die because of me." My voice is steady despite the pressure building behind my ribs. The wardstone pulses again—thick wrong energy slapping against my skin. I turn to Silra who’s already reaching for her belt pouch, lockpicks glinting. "Stay back from it."
The building groans like a dying beast overhead. Water from the broken shower stall laps at our ankles now, cold and relentless. The wardstone answers us with fresh pulse—each beat making the stone vibrate against the floorboards above, making my teeth ache in sympathy.
I stand there paralyzed for a few seconds, my heart pounding so hard I feel dizzy. Then Jeane's harsh voice snaps me out of it. "Hera! Get your ass in here now!"
I wade through the ankle-deep water to join her, trying not to think about what might be floating in it. Abby follows close behind, one arm wrapped around my waist like she's afraid I'll bolt if she lets go. As soon as we're all inside, Jeane slams the door shut and locks it. The flimsy click of the latch seems pathetically inadequate against the forces gathering outside.
