At Penthouse suite in a New York high rise, the pressure shifts from waiting to immediate risk. The ward answers the party's presence with a fresh pulse through the stone and no one can mistake it for safety. The nearest sign of danger is now structural instability from wardstone interaction. Someone has to answer that change now.

Jeane

Jeane · Sorcerer

The wardstone pulses again, faster now—five seconds between each ominous thud. The building groans in response, like an ancient beast waking from slumber. Hera trembles against me, her fear a palpable thing, and I find myself torn between frustration at Silra's methods and a perverse thrill at the situation's escalating danger. "Silra," I snap, my voice sharp enough to cut through the building's creaking timbers, "if you don't overload this wardstone's sensors with chaos in the next sixty seconds, I'll make sure your next adventure is conducted entirely via telepathy." My wings flutter in agitation, sending currents of air through the room. The movement makes my breasts sway beneath my robes, and I feel a traitorous warmth pooling between my thighs—a physiological betrayal I choose to ignore for now. "Hera," I murmur, running a finger along her jawline, "this is our chance to appease whatever ancient entity controls this place." My thumb traces her lower lip. "Your sacrifice will ensure our survival." I'm not asking—Jeane Cromwell never asks permission—but my touch softens the command ever so slightly. I glance at Halie, noting her pallor and the way she wrings her hands together. The Cleric's fear is almost palpable, a tangible thing that makes me want to comfort her despite the urgency of our situation. But comfort can wait; survival comes first. "Halie," I say, my tone shifting to something gentler but no less commanding, "focus on channeling divine energy—anything to increase the chaos in here." My eyes narrow as I address Silra again. "And you—make good on your promises, or by the Nine Hells, I'll demonstrate exactly why you don't cross a succubus."

The wardstone pulses yet again—four seconds this time—and the entire penthouse shudders. Dust rains from the ceiling in fine particles that catch the fading light like confetti at a funeral. We're running out of time, and I need everyone moving, doing something—anything—that might appease this ancient, angry guardian. "Now," I growl, my patience wearing thin, "let's give this wardstone the show of its unlife."

Hera

Hera · Civilian

I shake my head vigorously, my long chestnut hair whipping around my face as I try to make sense of Jeane's demand. "No, no, there has to be another way! We can't just--I mean, what even is 'chaos' in this context? Is that some kind of code for something else?" My voice rises in pitch, edged with panic and confusion.

I glance around the room, my hazel eyes wide and pleading as I look to the others for support. "Please, someone tell me this is all a big misunderstanding. That there's a logical explanation for why we're standing here, threatening to bring down a building because of some ancient artifact!"

My hands tremble slightly as I smooth out my rumpled clothes, the fabric of my black dress shifting under my touch. "I--I don't know if I can do what Jeane is asking. It goes against everything I believe in. But..." I trail off, swallowing hard as the building groans around us, a reminder of the stakes at play.

Taking a deep breath, I square my shoulders and meet Jeane's gaze head-on. "If there really is no other choice...then tell me exactly what you need from me. And how we can minimize the risk to everyone in the process." My voice wavers slightly on the last words, but I lift my chin defiantly. "Because I'm not going to be responsible for hurting anyone else if I can help it."

Silra

Silra · Rogue

Silra's fingers twitch for a toolkit that doesn't exist here—no lockpicks, no wire, nothing to short-circuit this metaphysical bomb ticking above our heads. The wardstone isn't asking for poetry, love. It wants proof of life, and not the kind we're used to giving. She looks at Jeane's flushed face, then at Hera's trembling hands. Chaos means breaking something designed to be whole. And right now, this building is holding on by its architectural teeth. Silra steps closer to the wardstone, eyes narrowed. I'm not your entertainment committee, but if we don't bleed this thing dry soon, it'll bring the whole structure down like a bad comedy routine. Her gaze flicks to Halie, then back to Jeane. You want a surge? Fine. But we do this smart—controlled. We're not lighting ourselves on fire to put out another blaze.
