Round 221 Transcript
Episode 1 · Episode Round 1

The skeletal figure's bony hands close around Jeane's ankle, its grip like a vice. She cries out, her voice echoing off the chamber's walls as she tries to pull away. The glowing woman above them surges forward, her massive form undulating through the water like a living thing. Abby stumbles backward, her eyes fixed on Jeane's struggle. The chamber's bioluminescent plants cast eerie shadows on the walls, making the scene feel like a macabre dance. Jeane's wings tremble with exhaustion, her magical reserves dwindling rapidly. She tries to conjure another spell, but the energy is too drained. The skeletal figure pulls Jeane closer, its grip tightening as it prepares to drag her down into the depths. Abby's voice cuts through the chaos, "Jeane—"
The glowing woman's presence seems to draw the water towards her, creating a whirlpool that threatens to suck Abby in.
My ankle burns where those dead fingers grip it—I can feel my bones creaking under the pressure. Abbs—I choke out through gritted teeth—grab that thing! I gesture frantically at a heavy-looking chunk of fallen pillar, not caring if I sound like a mad general. Use your weight! Smash its skull or whatever's left of it! My wings beat uselessly against the air; the skeletal horror is already dragging me towards the water's edge. The woman above surges closer—I can feel her power pressing down like a physical weight, stealing what little breath I have left.
I dig my claws into the stone floor, leaving deep gouges as I'm dragged inch by agonizing inch. If you're going to try something stupidly heroic—my voice cracks as it gets harder to speak—now would be the time! The water is lapping at my toes now. I can see shapes moving beneath the surface—I don't know what they are, but nothing good comes from getting pulled under with my magic spent and lungs empty. Abbs, please—I meet her eyes one more time—do something!
My heart hammers against my ribs as I watch Jeane struggle against the skeletal figure's grip. The sight of her being dragged towards the water’s edge is chilling. Every instinct screams at me to run, but Jeane’s frantic command cuts through the panic. I scan the chamber for the heavy chunk of stone she indicated, my eyes landing on a massive piece of fallen pillar.
I force myself to move, sprinting across the slippery floor towards it. The bioluminescent plants seem to dim around me, their glow concentrating more intensely on Jeane’s plight. I can feel the power in this place, ancient and oppressive, pressing down like a physical weight. It makes my skin crawl.
Reaching the fallen pillar, I grip its rough surface, heaving with all my strength. It barely budges at first, but desperation lends me a sudden surge of power. With a grunt of effort, I manage to tilt it slightly, sending it sliding across the floor towards the skeletal horror holding Jeane captive.
The creature turns, its glowing eyes fixing on me, and its grip on Jeane loosens just enough for her to wrench free one arm. She claws frantically at the dead fingers around her other ankle, but they hold fast.
I push harder, grunting with the effort as I try to steer the massive stone directly at the skeleton's head. The woman in the water above us stirs, her form becoming more solid and menacing by the second. "Jeane!" I call out, my voice echoing off the chamber walls. "Hold on!"
With a final burst of strength, I release the pillar, sending it crashing down onto the skeletal figure with a sickening crunch. Jeane yanks her other leg free just as the water begins to swirl around them both, pulled by some unseen force from above. She stumbles back, away from the chaos and the glowing woman’s looming form. "Abby!" she shouts, her voice strained with exertion and fear.
I run towards her, my feet slipping on the wet stone. The chamber seems to be coming alive around us, its ancient magic reacting to our presence. Everywhere I look, shadows twist into grotesque shapes, and the air hums with a chilling energy. "What now?" I ask, my voice trembling as I reach Jeane’s side.
