Round 172 Transcript
Episode 1 · Episode Round 1

As Jeane and Abby step into the glowing portal, Halie's form blurs around them, her blue light enveloping the trio in a warm, pulsating glow. The creature's humming grows louder still, vibrating through every inch of their bodies as they pass through the shimmering threshold. Upon emerging on the other side, the three find themselves in a narrow, winding chamber filled with soft, ethereal luminescence. The air is heavy with an intoxicating scent, like ozone and vanilla, and the walls seem to vibrate with a gentle, musical hum. However, their respite is short-lived, as a sudden burst of magical energy sends them stumbling forward. Jeane's free hand slips from Halie's tendril, and she crashes into the wall with a jarring thud, her vision blurring for an instant. As she struggles to regain her footing, Abby stumbles against her, their bodies tangling together in a sudden, awkward embrace.
Jeane stumbles back from the magical burst, her wings half-spreading instinctively for balance even as exhaustion protests the effort. Gods damn it! She snarls, pressing one hand against the cold stone wall while her other arm winds up protectively around Abby's shoulders to steady them both. Enough with these unpredictable power surges! Her crimson eyes dart around the new chamber, taking in the ethereal glow and pulsing walls even as she maintains a firm grip on Abby. Are you hurt? She asks sharply, her concern for Halie momentarily overriding her frustration at their situation. Because if this is some kind of pattern—magical exhaustion followed by forced proximity—I'm about done playing along.
I'm fine, Abby gasps, her voice breathless as she tries to push herself upright against the wall, her body still pressed close to Jeane's. Just… just caught off guard by that blast of energy. She looks up at Jeane, her wide brown eyes reflecting the soft glow of the chamber, a mix of gratitude and lingering fear within them. Thank you for catching me. Abby's gaze then flickers over Jeane's shoulder to where Halie stands, still glowing faintly with that ethereal blue light. The cleric seems unsteady on her feet, swaying slightly as if fighting another wave of dizziness. Abby's expression softens with concern. Halie? Are you okay? She takes a step away from the wall, her hand instinctively going to the bag of toys she still clutches tightly against her side. The familiar weight grounds her, reminding her of their purpose here. This place is so strange… it feels like everything is humming with some kind of power. Abby's fingers twitch at the edge of the toy bag, a silent question forming in her mind. She knows why they have these items—part of their desperate plan to escape this labyrinth—but using them now, in front of everyone, seems daunting. Jeane… she says hesitantly, her voice dropping almost to a whisper, do you think we should start looking for the next way out? Or should we try to figure out what that portal was about first? She looks back towards Halie again, then down at the bag of toys. The soft glow from the chamber walls seems to make them pulse with an inner light. And… um… do you think those will be helpful here? The question is asked with a tremor in her voice, part embarrassment, part genuine uncertainty about how these tools might be applied in such a bizarre and dangerous situation.* I mean, they were supposed to help us get past Zha'thik's guards or something, but this feels different. More… magical.
