As Aethera speaks, her voice carries a sense of urgency, "Whatever it is, we face it together. No more surprises, no more hidden agendas—if you can't handle whatever's coming, we fight alongside each other or die trying." The skittering sound grows louder, and Halie's divine light flares up in response. Hera draws her sword, the blade gleaming with faint residual divinity. Suddenly, a figure bursts from the left corridor, its movements a blur of speed and agility. Aethera's eyes widen as she raises her hands, palms out, to ward off the oncoming threat. The figure is humanoid in shape, but its skin seems to shift and writhe like living shadow. It's clear that this entity is not from this world. The creature hurtles toward us, its presence causing the walls to pulse with an otherworldly energy. Aethera's stance falters, and she takes a step back, her eyes darting between Halie, Hera, and the approaching entity. The creature's gaze locks onto Aethera, and it raises a hand, as if to strike. Immediate pressure: Halie must decide whether to defend Aethera, protect herself and Hera, or try to reason with the entity.

Jeane

Jeane · Sorcerer

I lunge forward past Aethera—my wings spreading wide despite corridor's confines—and thrust both hands toward shadow creature, a stream of dark energy crackling between my fingertips. You want her? I snarl at it, then deal with me first! The magic surges from my palms despite low reserves, the tendrils of darkness coiling around its own shadow form mid-lunge. Aethera stumbles back against wall as I push past her into open space between us and creature. This isn't your fight alone anymore—we're in this together whether you like it or not,* so keep those defensive wards up while I distract whatever hellspawn thinks we're easy prey!

Halie

Halie · Cleric

I step between Aethera and the creature without hesitation—my divine light flaring despite exhaustion. "Stop!" I command, voice cutting through the skittering sounds, but it doesn't pause its advance even for a heartbeat. I raise both hands toward it—holy symbol blazing with what little power remains—and call upon whatever divine reserves are left. "By the sacred pact of—" The creature's shadow tendrils lash out faster than my words can form, and I barely have time to complete the blessing before they're whipping through space where my head was. I stumble backward into Aethera—her back pressing against stone wall—and feel her hands grasp my shoulders steadying me despite our mistrust. The creature's eyes fix on us now—seeing us as single unit for first time since entering corridor system—and its hunger intensifies visibly, shadow form seeming to swell with dark energy. Jeane's magic crackles around it but the thing shrugs off her attack like water on oil. "Not demonic," I mutter through gritted teeth, "something else entirely... older maybe." I flex my fingers—divine fire gathering at palms despite knowing reserves are nearly spent—and meet Aethera's eyes briefly beside me. We fight together or die here, but I need you to tell me what this is so we can actually counter it instead of just throwing magic until out completely. The creature hisses—shadow tendrils reaching for us again—and I raise my hands ready to defend despite knowing divine fire won't hold forever at current strength.*
