Round 130

Phase: escalating

Jeane focused every ounce of her rapidly dwindling magical reserves into maintaining the unstable warding field containing Silra's magic. The air inside the ritual chamber crackled with barely contained energy, each pulse of the binding spell weaker than the last.
"Don't move," she said through gritted teeth, not looking away from the flickering symbols that defined the field's boundaries. "The binding is unstable enough without you shifting around and disrupting it further." She adjusted one of the ward anchors with a precise gesture, sweat beading on her forehead as she felt the magical backlash trying to tear through her carefully constructed defenses.
Halie stood nearby, her face pale with exhaustion but eyes sharp as she watched everything unfold with barely concealed suspicion. The cleric's hand instinctively moved toward her belt where she usually carried holy water, only to find it empty—she'd used her last vial during the binding ritual and hadn't bothered restocking in their haste to escape.
"Jeane," Halie said, her voice tight with controlled urgency. "How long can you hold this?"
"Not long enough," Jeane admitted, sweat running down her temples now as she poured more power into the wards. "I need at least two more minutes to stabilize it properly, preferably three. Can you find something useful in here? Anything consecrated or magically potent?"
Halie nodded once and moved toward a nearby supply cabinet, her movements careful despite obvious magical exhaustion weighing down each step. She began rifling through its contents—assorted adult toys, several bottles of lubricant, bondage gear—and frowned deeply.
"More sex toys," she muttered under her breath. "Seriously? There's nothing useful in here?" Her fingers closed around a small glass vial filled with clear liquid. "Wait—this might be something." She uncorked it and sniffed cautiously. "Smells like... holy water?"
Jeane glanced over, a flicker of relief crossing her face before she refocused on the binding field. "Good. That'll help if anything breaks through. Now please, just stand still."
Halie moved back to her original position near the wall, leaning against it heavily as she gripped the vial tightly. Her eyes never left Jeane's concentrated form, suspicion warring with desperate necessity in her expression.
The magical binding pulsed between them again, weaker this time than ever before. The air seemed to vibrate with anticipation, and far below in the corridors, something massive began moving toward their position with deliberate speed.
