Round 6 Transcript
Episode 1 · Episode Round 6

Jeane's grip on the lamp base tightens as the ceramic ashtray shatters, shards of ceramic flying through the air. The sound is like a sharp crack, followed by the sudden silence of the kitchen. Jeane's eyes dart to the broken ashtray, her gaze lingering on the scattered shards before she slowly turns her attention back to the kitchen door, her senses heightened as she waits for any sign of movement from the intruder. The Force, now positioned in the doorway, begins to sweep the area with her flashlight, casting an eerie glow over the kitchen. Her light beam dances across the countertops, the floor, and the walls, searching for any sign of Jeane. The only sound is the soft hum of the refrigerator and the creaking of the old wooden floorboards beneath her feet. As she advances into the house, The Force's flashlight casts an intense beam of light onto the kitchen table, illuminating the brass lamp with a heavy base, the iron fireplace poker, and the ceramic ashtray in a stark, unforgiving glow.
Jeane clutches the brass lamp base like a club, her knuckles white. The sound of the ashtray breaking feels like an alarm bell that she can't take back—too loud, too sudden in the quiet house. She backs against the kitchen counter, her eyes fixed on the dark doorway leading to the living room. The heavy iron poker lies on the counter beside her, within reach but secondary. Her heart hammers in her chest. She needs a plan.
She raises her voice to the darkness, trying to sound threatening despite the fear making her words shake. I know you're in here! You have five seconds to leave before I call the police! She grips the lamp tighter, ready to swing it. Her eyes dart between the doorway and the window behind her—an escape route if she needs it. The kitchen feels too small, the shadows too deep.
She edges sideways, maintaining distance from the doorway while positioning herself between the intruder and the house keys on the wall hook. Come out where I can see you! Her voice cracks on the last word. She's trying to intimidate, to make the threat seem bigger than her terrified self. The lamp feels heavy and unwieldy in her grip.
The house breathes with darkness in the kitchen. Heavy silence. I move slow across the tile floor—flashlight beam tight and low, sweeping under the island counter first, checking behind the pantry door. No one here yet. Good. Clear. The back door lock is solid. Windows shut. If she ran, she's still close inside somewhere. Hiding. Listening. Panicking. I can work with that. I check the junk drawer next to the stove—batteries for my flashlight there, good—and scan the countertop fast. Knife block is empty. Good girl started smart but ran out of time. No other obvious blades here. I pull a long carving knife from the sink and test the edge with my thumb: sharp enough. Then I move toward the living room archway, back to the wall, listening for movement anywhere inside the house that's too quiet to be empty.
