Round 2

The crack of the gunshot echoes through the house, the sound sharp and final. Jeane stumbles forward, her hands coming up to clutch at her head as blood begins to pour from the wound. She collapses to the floor, her body twitching once before going still. The lamp flickers again, casting grotesque shadows across the room as the rain continues its relentless assault on the windows.

The house seems to hold its breath for a moment longer, then releases it in a low creak of settling timbers.
