Round 42 Transcript
Episode 1 · Episode Round 1

At The base of a crumbling stone tower, the shared situation sharpens into an immediate decision point. What is already in motion no longer supports waiting or circling. The next concrete move will determine how this scene changes.
Varrika grips her mace tightly, feeling the wards' hunger pulse through the stone. She glances up at the window where a shadow lingers. "Whatever's upstairs knows we're here," she growls. "We can't wait any longer."
The stone beneath my fingers suddenly feels wrong—ward patterns shifting, not just pulsing but changing. Whatever we're disturbing isn't just reacting; it's recalibrating. I pull my hand back like touching a hot coal. "Whatever's upstairs," I say, voice low and tight, "just woke up. Fully awake. And it's hungry."
The wards aren't just defenses anymore—they're arteries, and they've stopped feeding in a steady trickle. They've switched to gulping because the patient knows visitors have arrived for a home inspection. "Merrin," I snap, turning toward the window where shadow just moved, "get your ass back through that wall now." My wings tighten against my back instinctively, ready to launch even though there's nowhere to go in this cramped tower room. I can feel it upstairs—the weight of something ancient and malevolent shifting its attention from slumber to predation. The air tastes like iron and old blood. We have seconds before it decides how to greet us.
I feel the wards' hunger pulsing more urgently now, like the beat of some slumbering beast's heart. Whatever's upstairs has noticed us snooping around down here.
