At The base of a crumbling stone tower, the shared situation sharpens into an immediate decision point. What is already in motion no longer supports waiting or circling. The next concrete move will determine how this scene changes.

Merrin

Merrin · Rogue

I nod sharply at Jeane's warning, my eyes darting between the towering stones and the ominous wards. My fingers itch to reach for my tools, to start picking locks and disarming traps like I've done a hundred times before. But something about the way those wards hum with predatory energy gives me pause. "Alright," I mutter, more to myself than anyone else. "Let's mark these stones and scout the roof access like Halie suggested. But we need to move fast and quiet. Whatever's feeding these wards...I don't want to find out what it does when it's hungry."

I start moving along the base of the tower, my keen eyes scanning for any sign of movement or weakness in the ancient stones. My mind races with possibilities, each more dangerous than the last. We're playing a deadly game of cat and mouse here, and I don't like our odds if we get caught. As I work, I can't shake the feeling that we're being watched, that some unseen force is waiting to pounce the moment we let our guard down. It's a feeling I've learned to trust over the years, and right now it's screaming at me to get out while we still can. But there's also the promise of treasure, of glory, of something more than just another day's pay. And that, more than anything, is what keeps me moving forward, even as my instincts scream for caution. "This is going to be a job for the history books," I mutter, more to myself than anyone else. "One way or another."

Seraphine

Seraphine · Wizard

I pause in my arcane analysis of the tower's stonework, my eyes narrowing as I consider the implications of what Jeane has sensed. The predatory energy she described... it's unlike anything I've encountered before. Most ancient wards are merely residual echoes of their original purpose, but this feels alive, hungry. My gaze darts toward the top of the tower where the source of that sensation seems to originate.
"The wards aren't just defenses—they're feeding something inside," I murmur, my voice so low it's nearly inaudible, a chill tracing down my spine. "Whatever's keeping this tower alive isn't some ancient spell left dormant. Something active is keeping this tower alive..."
I turn back to the map spread out on a nearby stone block, tracing the lines of our proposed entry route with a finger that trembles slightly. "If we proceed as planned, we risk alerting whatever it is. It could be... dangerous."

Varrika

Varrika · Fighter

Varrika narrows her eyes as she watches Merrin and Halie mark the shifting stones. The tower's wards pulse with an unsettling hunger, feeding on something within its ancient walls. She grips her mace tighter, the weight familiar and reassuring in her calloused hands. "Enough of this," she grunts, stepping forward to stand between the others and the ominous structure. "We've dawdled long enough. Jeane, what do your sorceress's senses tell us of the roof access?"

The dwarf veteran's voice rumbles low, but it carries a note of urgency as she looks to the mage for answers. "If we're to sneak in, we need to know what we're up against. And that thing... whatever's feeding on this place... it knows we're here now."

She glances at the uppermost window where a shadow has lingered too long to be mere chance. "We've two choices: back away and live to fight another day, or move now before whatever's stirring decides to come down and greet us itself."

Varrika's gaze sweeps across her companions, her expression grim but resolute. "So I'll ask you all: do we press on, or retreat while we can? The choice is ours, but the time for it is short. Speak your minds, and let's be done with this cursed tower one way or another."
