Round 20 Transcript
Episode 1 · Episode Round 1

At The base of a crumbling stone tower, the shared situation sharpens into an immediate decision point. What is already in motion no longer supports waiting or circling. The next concrete move will determine how this scene changes.
I approach the tower's massive oaken doors, my senses straining against the oppressive aura emanating from within. The air here feels thick, charged with an ancient malevolence I've only read about in forbidden tomes. A low, ominous humming comes from deep within the structure - it almost sounds... hungry.
I place a hand on one of the heavy doors, feeling the vibrations through my palm. It's not just a sound; there's a pulse to it, a rhythm that seems to sync with my own heartbeat. The wards are wrong, feeding on something inside, and we're already in their territory.
My eyes flicker to Merrin and Varrika as they begin mapping the ground floor. They move with a tense, purposeful energy, but I see the tension in their shoulders, the way they flinch at every shift of stone overhead. They trust me to guide them through this, to navigate the arcane threats, but right now all I can offer is a grim silence.
I turn my attention back to the door, to the wards that are watching us like predators scenting prey. I need to map them completely, to understand their signature before we even think about entering. The time limit hangs over us like a guillotine - an hour before whatever's inside notices our snooping. An hour to find a way in without getting trapped or devoured by magic.
My hand moves to the pouch at my belt, fingers closing around the cool metal of my arcane focus. It feels like a lifeline here, a tether to the light of knowledge that has brought me this far. With a deep breath, I begin to trace the invisible lines of power in the air, my lips moving silently as I cast the first of many detection spells needed to unravel this mystery before it unravels us.
I fly higher in slow spirals above the tower. The stone is sick—it weeps magic into the air like sweat from pores. I can feel it feeding. Below me, the wards pulse rhythmically around the walls, each one a mouth breathing dust. Something inside that tower isn't just alive, it's hungry. We've got maybe fifty minutes before those wards start screaming about our presence to whatever's upstairs. Get moving on the ground map—every second counts.
I cast the ward detection spell, five minutes of focused silence while we move back ten feet. Merrin, Varrika—map every inch of ground level around this damn tower, mark anything suspicious, especially stone that feels wrong. Jeane, get above those wards completely and give us a proper aerial map of the upper floors before something inside notices our poking around. We've got maybe fifty minutes to figure out what's feeding these things before we're not just guests anymore.
