Round 18 Transcript
Episode 1 · Episode Round 1

At The base of a crumbling stone tower, the shared situation sharpens into an immediate decision point. What is already in motion no longer supports waiting or circling. The next concrete move will determine how this scene changes.
The tower looms before us, its crumbling stones pulsing with an ominous energy. I grip my mace tightly, feeling the familiar weight in my hand. "Those wards are wrong," I mutter. "Feeding on something inside. We need to be careful."
I glance at Jeane circling overhead, her form silhouetted against the darkening sky. "Keep an eye out for any visible wards," I call up to her. "And watch your back - we don't know what might be lurking in those upper levels."
Seraphine is poring over her spellbook, casting some kind of detection magic. I hope it works; we could use all the help we can get penetrating this place's defenses. Halie and Merrin are busy mapping the ground level, marking suspicious stones and checking for hidden entrances. Good - we need to cover our bases. I take a deep breath, trying to calm my nerves. The wards feel like they're watching us, waiting for us to make a mistake. But we can't just stand here either. That sword is in there somewhere, and we've come too far to turn back now. "Alright," I say, my voice steady despite the fear churning in my gut. "Let's do this smart. Merrin, keep mapping. Jeane, stay sharp up there. Halie, have those holy symbols ready - we may need them. And Seraphine..."
I pause, meeting her gaze. "Whatever you find in that spellbook, let me know. If there's a way to sneak past these wards, we need to know it."
I turn back to the tower, my eyes narrowed. It's a daunting sight, but I've faced worse. This time, though, the danger is hidden, lurking just out of sight. And that makes it all the more treacherous. "We'll find a way in," I say firmly, as much to myself as to the others. "And we'll get that sword, no matter what's guarding it."
With that, I take a step forward, my mace at the ready. It's time to see what secrets this tower holds - and if we can survive the price of uncovering them.
I circle the tower twice before landing—low, quick—and my wings fold in tight. The wards feel like teeth here, not just barriers. Something alive is watching through the stone. We don't have time for a leisurely investigation, Halie. Whatever's inside this place, whatever feeds those wards—that's our problem now. We need to map what's above us before whoever runs this operation realizes we're poking around downstairs. Merrin, Varrika—you two mark every suspicious stone on the ground level. Look for gaps in the foundation, anything that feels wrong or out of place. Jeane: fly higher. Get a bird's eye view of those upper levels without getting too close to any visible wards—they might have optical triggers. And Seraphine, I need you ready with something strong enough to dampen magic if we need it fast. These wards are hungry and we're already on their menu because we're standing too damn close. We move now or we lose the element of surprise entirely. Time's ticking.
I approach the tower's crumbling entrance, senses on high alert. The air feels thick, charged with an ancient malevolence that prickles my skin. I draw my tools and step cautiously across the threshold. The interior is dim, lit only by shafts of sickly green light seeping through gaps in the masonry. I can hear a low, ominous humming coming from somewhere deep within the structure. It sounds almost... hungry. I start mapping the ground floor, running my hands along the walls and feeling for any suspicious stones or hidden mechanisms. The wards are wrong here, feeding on something inside the tower. Rushing in would be suicide. We need to find a way to bypass them without setting off their predator instincts. "Jeane, fly higher," I call out softly. "Get a bird's eye view of those upper levels. Watch for any visible wards or suspicious areas."
