At The base of a crumbling stone tower, the shared situation sharpens into an immediate decision point. What is already in motion no longer supports waiting or circling. The next concrete move will determine how this scene changes.

I take a deep breath, the air thick with an ancient, cloying scent of dust and something more sinister. My eyes dart between the pulsing wards on the tower's facade and the anxious faces of my companions. This is no ordinary ruin, no simple relic to be plundered for trinkets or ancient tomes. The very stones seem alive, watching us with a predatory intent.
"Whatever feeds these wards... it's not something we want to surprise," I mutter, more to myself than anyone else. I pull out my spellbook, flipping through the pages until I find the incantation for a wider detection spell. It's a complex weave of magic, one that will take all my concentration to cast properly.
"Give me a moment," I say, holding up a hand as Halie begins to protest about the time limit. "If we rush in blindly, we risk triggering something far worse than these wards. I need to see what else is lurking in this place before we commit."
My fingers trace the intricate runes on the page, committing them to memory. The magic hums at my fingertips, eager to be released. But first, I have to be sure we're not walking straight into a trap.

I circle once more over the roof, the sickly green light pulsing like a diseased heartbeat beneath me. The wards aren't just barriers—they're predators. I can feel them tasting the air, hungry for something to consume. We have maybe an hour before whatever's running this place realizes we've wandered onto its dinner plate. I descend slowly. Halie was right—the magic here is alive and ravenous. But it's not feeding on us. Not yet anyway. Whatever's inside that tower, buried deep in the stone or chained to it by dark sorcery—that's what keeps this monstrous spell alive. The wards aren't protecting something; they're guard dogs. I land, my wings folding back into shadow as I turn to face Merrin and Varrika on their perimeter sweep. We don't have time for a leisurely investigation, I say, voice low and sharp. The longer we stand here mapping stones like scholars, the more likely we are to draw attention.

Merrin · Rogue

I pull out my tools - lockpicks, crowbar, the works. The wards are wrong, rushing in will make things worse; tower has secrets, hidden passages or doors may be found. "Jeane, fly higher, get a bird's eye view of those upper levels. Varrika and I will map the ground level, mark any suspicious stones or gaps in the foundation." I glance at Halie, "If you're sensing something inside this place that's feeding those wards, then we need to be careful. Whatever it is, we don't want to surprise it."

I start checking the foundation stones, looking for any irregularities that might hide a secret door or passage. My heart pounds as I work - the wards feel like they're watching us, waiting for a mistake. But we can't leave without that sword, and we can't just charge in blind either. It's a delicate balance, and right now, caution is winning out over haste.
