Round 6 Transcript
Episode 1 · Episode Round 1

At The base of a crumbling stone tower, the shared situation sharpens into an immediate decision point. What is already in motion no longer supports waiting or circling. The next concrete move will determine how this scene changes.
I crouch down by the crumbling stone steps, peering intently at the runes etched into the weathered surface. My rogue's intuition is tingling like a live wire—there's magic here, dark and hungry, but I can't quite put my finger on its source. I mutter under my breath,
"These wards are no joke. Whatever's powering them must be something special."
I step forward, mace at the ready, to examine the tower's entrance more closely. The runes etched into the stone steps seem to pulse with an otherworldly energy, casting an eerie glow in the darkness. I reach out with my free hand, feeling a faint tingle as my fingertips brush against the ancient symbols. "These wards are no joke," I mutter, more to myself than to the others. "Whatever's powering them must be something special."
I glance back over my shoulder at Halie, the cleric, her holy symbol of the Goddess of Light glinting in the moonlight. "Halie, can you sense anything about these wards? Any weaknesses we might exploit?"
My eyes then shift to Merrin, the rogue, crouched nearby studying the runes with a keen eye. "Merrin, anything useful from your angle? We need to find a way inside without tripping their alarms."
I turn my attention back to the tower, unease prickling at the base of my skull. The magic here feels old, hungry in a way I've never encountered before. Whatever lies within those walls, it's not going to give up easily. I take a deep breath, the cool night air filling my lungs as I steel myself for what's to come. "Alright, listen up," I say, my voice low and gravelly. "We're walking into the unknown here. But we came this far for that sword, and by Moradin's hammer, we're not leaving without it."
I grip my mace tighter, the familiar weight of the weapon a comfort in my hand. "Stay sharp, trust your instincts, and watch each other's backs. Whatever happens in there, we face it together."
With that, I step forward, my boots scuffing against the stone as I approach the tower's entrance. The runes seem to shimmer, their pulsing growing more pronounced as I draw nearer. I can feel the power emanating from them, ancient and dangerous, but also... compelling in a way I can't quite understand. I take another step, then pause, my hand reaching out towards the wards. "Merrin," I call over my shoulder, "you ready to work your lock-picking magic? Because we're about to find out just how hungry these wards really are."
I circle the tower's base, wings extended for arcane detection. The stone pulses with dark energy—this isn't just age, it's active magic feeding on something inside those walls. The runes aren't defensive; they're parasitic. Whatever core sustains this place has kept these wards alive through generations of decay and abandonment. These defenses are too complex to breach without understanding their source. If we stumble in blindly, we'll trigger whatever's been kept contained here for centuries. We need precision—Halie, finish your ward over us all before I get closer. Merrin, if there's a way inside that doesn't trip these things, find it quietly. Varrika, stay sharp but don't charge anything yet. Something ancient and powerful is at the center of this tower—the source of this magic current I'm tracking. Whatever it is, it's not natural. It feels like... a trapped heart beat, feeding everything around it. We're dealing with dark sorcery on a scale beyond any text I've studied in the forbidden libraries. I don't like being this close to something I can't immediately identify or control. But understanding the nature of our opposition before we engage is the only thing keeping us from becoming more skeletons for their collection. This takes patience, not brute force—at least until we know what we're dealing with.
I kneel beside Merrin on the cold stone steps, my fingers tracing the intricate patterns of the runes etched into the weathered rock. A chill, unrelated to the night air, runs down my spine as I feel the faint thrum of magic pulsing beneath my touch.
These wards are not merely defensive—they’re alive with purpose. The energy they radiate is unlike anything I've encountered before in my studies. It’s a deep, hungry thing, feeding on some source within the tower itself.
"Merrin, these runes... they're not just keeping us out. They're drawing power from something inside this place. Something old and potent."
I glance back at the others, my eyes meeting Halie's. She nods slowly, a grim expression settling on her face as she completes her protective ward around our small group. The air crackles with a sudden burst of light, then stills into an expectant silence.
"Whatever we're dealing with here, it's no ordinary magic. We need to tread carefully if we hope to survive this."
