Round 5 Transcript
Episode 1 · Episode Round 1

At The base of a crumbling stone tower, the shared situation sharpens into an immediate decision point. What is already in motion no longer supports waiting or circling. The next concrete move will determine how this scene changes.
I trace one rune after another in the fading light, my fingers leaving faint blue sparks where they touch the stone. The magic here is old—older than any text I've studied in the forbidden libraries. These wards aren't just barriers; they're feeding on something inside. There's a rhythm to it, like a heartbeat or breath, and I can almost taste the hunger in the air. Whatever powers these defenses isn't external—the tower itself is alive with dark energy. Let Halie finish her ward—I need that extra layer before I go any closer. Merrin has good eyes for weak points; Varrika's right about the urgency, but we won't last five minutes if we rush blindly into a trap. We need to understand what's feeding this magic before we try to take it apart. The question isn't just what's inside those walls—it's what's keeping these defenses running after centuries of neglect. Whatever it is, it's powerful enough to sustain an entire magical ecosystem.
I stand before the tower's massive stone gates, my gaze fixed on the intricate runes etched into their surface. The air crackles with dark energy, raising the fine hairs on my arms. The runes themselves pulse with an eerie, hungry light.
My mind races as I try to decipher their meaning—they seem to be some sort of ward, but not just to keep us out. They’re drawing power from something inside, feeding off it.
I turn to look at Merrin, who is studying a small scroll of parchment, no doubt trying to find some hint in her notes about what we might be facing here. "Merrin," I call out, my voice low and urgent, "we can't just stand here debating this. If those wards are drawing power from whatever's within, then whatever it is must be incredibly potent to sustain such immense arcane defenses over generations."
My eyes flicker back to the runes, their glow seeming to intensify as I stare at them. A shiver runs down my spine—a mix of fear and something darker, a morbid curiosity about the power contained within these ancient walls.
I look around at our party, seeing the determination on Varrika's face, the apprehension in Halie's eyes, and the silent resolve of Jeane. We've come this far, risked everything to get here. To turn back now would mean abandoning our quest entirely.
"I say we move now, while we still have the element of surprise," I declare, my voice gaining a newfound strength. "We breach those gates at first light. Halie, can you sense anything specific about the nature of these wards? What kind of magic is being used here?"
I turn to Merrin again, my expression pleading. "And Merrin, can you get us inside without triggering an alarm? Maybe find a weak point in their magic?"
The question hangs in the air as I await their responses. The decision has been made—we push forward into the unknown heart of this tower, where some ancient evil sleeps, waiting to be awakened by our presence.
