Narrator · Narrator

The dim candlelight cast eerie shadows upon the cracked stone walls of the war room, the only sound the distant rumble of thunder outside. The heavy table, scarred and worn from countless battles, stood at the heart of the room, surrounded by six chairs. Each chair was occupied by a party member: Jeane the Sorcerer, Halie the Cleric, Varrika the Fighter, Seraphine the Wizard, Merrin the Rogue, and their leader, though that position was not yet defined.

The Narrator, seated at the head of the table, surveyed the room with an air of solemnity. "You have all gathered here tonight because we've reached a critical juncture in our quest for the Time-Splitting Sword. The rumors have grown more dire by the day, and I fear that time is running out to prevent the darkness from claiming this artifact."

The Narrator paused, letting the weight of their words sink in. "We've been hired to retrieve the legendary sword, said to be hidden within the accursed tower. But the cost of failure has become increasingly apparent: undead horrors now roam the Whispering Woods, drawn by the sword's power, and rumors speak of dark sorcerers who will stop at nothing to protect their prize."

A faint breeze from the door carried the scent of damp timber and decay, further emphasizing the foreboding atmosphere. "We've all traveled through these treacherous woods for days now, each of you bearing the scars of our journey. Yet, despite our fatigue, we must press on. The Time-Splitting Sword holds the key to restoring balance to our world."

The Narrator's gaze swept across the room, meeting the eyes of each party member. "So, I ask: are you all still committed to seeing this through? What successes or failures will you accept, and what will they mean for your character?"

The ancient rune-covered gate outside creaked ominously in the wind, casting an eerie glow over the room. The air was heavy with tension as the party members considered the weight of their decision.

The Narrator's next question hung in the air: "Will you accept a 50% chance of success, with a corresponding 50% risk of catastrophic failure, where the consequences for your character include but are not limited to: being lost or consumed by the undead, succumbing to madness, or being trapped within the tower forever? Or will you demand a higher success rate, potentially at the cost of increased danger and uncertainty?"

J

Jeane · Sorcerer

She looks around the room slowly, dark eyes calculating. I understand the stakes now. Very well. Her voice is cool and controlled, with a trace of sly confidence. I will participate under three conditions: One, we proceed only after I have performed my divination ritual to seek guidance from... certain sources. Two, Merrin scouts ahead at all times and reports back before any major decision. And three, Halie stays close to me; her light magic is useful against the undead, but she also serves as insurance that we can escape should things go awry.

H

Halie · Cleric

I will join the expedition, but I do so cautiously and with my eyes open to the danger.

M

Merrin · Rogue

I will join the expedition, but I do so cautiously and with my eyes open to the danger.

S

Seraphine · Wizard

Seraphine sits back in her chair, a thoughtful expression on her elven features. She taps a slender finger against the heavy wooden tabletop, the sound soft but deliberate in the quiet room.
"I will participate. The risk is high, yes, but so too is the potential reward for what we stand to gain. I have studied this tower's history extensively, and if even half of what I've learned is true, then the Time-Splitting Sword could change the course of history itself."
Her gaze drifts towards the ancient rune-covered gate outside, a flicker of both fear and anticipation crossing her face. "However, I must insist on one condition: we bring along additional supplies for a long-term stay within the tower if needed. The texts speak of time loops, of being trapped there for what feels like years while only days pass in the outside world. If we are to have any hope of survival and success, we must be prepared for such possibilities."
She turns her attention back to the party members, her expression serious. "And one more thing. I will not be solely focused on retrieving the sword. There are ancient tomes within those walls that could contain secrets far older and more valuable than any relic. If we find them, they must be secured and brought out intact. That is my purpose here beyond just the sword."

V

Varrika · Fighter

Varrika shifts forward in her seat, her battle-scarred hands gripping the edge of the table tightly. "I'll participate, but I've got conditions too." Her gravel-edged voice is gruff and serious. "First, we need to fortify this room as best we can. If things go south, I want a defensible position to retreat to."
