At The base of a crumbling stone tower, the pressure shifts from waiting to immediate risk. The ward answers the party's presence with a fresh pulse through the stone and no one can mistake it for safety. The nearest sign of danger is now Skeletons: Undead remnants of the tower's original defenders, now animated by dark magic to endlessly guard their ancient home.. Someone has to answer that change now.

Halie

Halie · Cleric

I'll go first. This whole place feels wrong—the magic isn't old, it's being renewed. We need to find Merrin before whatever's feeding these skeletons decides to make us its next project.

Varrika

Varrika · Fighter

The air is thick with an ominous energy as I stand guard at the entrance of this accursed tower. My instincts scream at me to turn back, but we've come too far to retreat now. Merrin's voice echoes from somewhere deep within the depths of this crumbling ruin, but her words are lost in the eerie silence that follows. I tighten my grip on the heavy mace, its weight a comforting presence in my weathered hands. The skeletons that guard this place may be nothing more than reanimated bones, but I've seen enough battlefield horrors to know better than to underestimate them. Jeane and the others are busy mapping out the ground floor, trying to identify patrol patterns and trace the source of this dark magic that seems to seep from every cracked stone. But for now, my duty is clear - to secure this entrance and keep watch for any undead that may be lurking in the shadows. The thought of Merrin trapped in some hidden chamber fills me with a sense of unease. That halfling has proven herself to be a valuable ally in our quest, but even the most skilled rogue can find themselves outmatched by ancient magic and treacherous traps. I take a deep breath, the scent of decay and something else, something darker, filling my nostrils. This place feels wrong, like a wound festering with some unseen corruption. But we've come too far to turn back now. The Time-Splitting Sword awaits us at the heart of this tower, and with it, the hope of undoing the damage that has been wrought upon the realms. I square my shoulders, ready to face whatever horrors may lie ahead. The path will be treacherous, but we have faced worse in our travels. Together, we will find Merrin and uncover the secrets that this tower holds. And if the gods are willing, we will emerge victorious, with the legendary blade in hand and a tale of courage to tell. But for now, I stand watch, my eyes scanning the shadows for any sign of movement. The night is long, and the tower's secrets are many. But one thing is certain - we will not rest until Merrin is safe and the sword is ours.

Jeane

Jeane · Sorcerer

I can feel it—someone's actively feeding dark energy into this ruin. These skeletons aren't ancient remnants; they're being animated fresh, layer by layer, by whoever's holed up inside. Merrin... she's got guts, but her rogue training doesn't cover command centers or power sources. I'll go in first, map the patrol routes and find their leader. If we cut off the head, those bone rattlers stop marching. Halie, stay with Seraphine—keep that holy symbol ready; we might need it. Varrika, secure the entrance behind us, watch for reinforcements. Merrin's down there... alive, I'm sure of it. We'll extract her once we know what we're dealing with. This is a strategic play, not a rescue mission. If we rush in blind, all five of us end up as their next project.

Merrin

Merrin · Rogue

Merrin's voice echoes through the hidden chamber, filled with equal parts panic and wry humor. "Well, this is just grand. I tumble down a hidden trapdoor and end up in what appears to be the lair of a mad sorcerer. Lovely."

Seraphine

Seraphine · Wizard

I stand at the base of the crumbling tower, my staff gripped tightly in my hand, its runes glowing faintly in the dim light filtering through the broken roof. The air here is thick with a fresh and potent magic layered over ancient decay, a sensation I have never felt before. It hums against my skin, beckoning me deeper into this place of secrets.
The runes etched into the stonework seem to pulse with the same energy as the one on my own staff, but there is an unsettling edge to it, something dark and insistent that makes my heart beat faster with a mixture of excitement and dread. This is not just a ruin; it is a prison wearing a crown, and I can feel the weight of its history pressing down upon me.
I turn to face the others, my voice dropping into a low murmur as I gesture towards the entrance. "There's something alive in there, feeding off this magic. It feels... fresh. Not ancient decay, but active corruption." My eyes dart around the immediate area, half-expecting some undead horror to emerge from the shadows at my words.
I take a deep step closer, my voice dropping to a hushed whisper. "We need to be on our guard. Whatever this is, it's powerful, and we don't know what it will do if it senses us."
