At The base of a crumbling stone tower, the pressure shifts from waiting to immediate risk. The ward answers the party's presence with a fresh pulse through the stone and no one can mistake it for safety. The nearest sign of danger is now Skeletons: Undead remnants of the tower's original defenders, now animated by dark magic to endlessly guard their ancient home.. Someone has to answer that change now.

Seraphine

Seraphine · Wizard

I feel the wrongness of this place deep in my bones, a chill that sinks into the marrow. The air here is thick with an ancient, malevolent power, a pressure that feels like it's pushing against my skin. The skeletons moving with such fluid purpose are a clear sign - whatever dark magic animates them has a new source, one that has only recently begun to pulse with hunger. My eyes dart from the undead forms to the crumbling tower entrance, then back again. This is no longer just an exploration of ruins; it's a battle against something freshly awakened, something that wants us gone before we even set foot inside.
Halie's words echo in my mind as I watch Varrika grip her mace, her stance radiating a quiet confidence. Merrin is right to be cautious; these are not the shambling horrors of storybooks, but creatures driven by intent. And that intent seems to be focused entirely on us.

Jeane

Jeane · Sorcerer

Jeane studies the bone-white shapes detaching from the tower's shadow like smoke solidified into wrongness. Her wings shift restlessly beneath her cloak. Six of them now—too many for an uncoordinated mindless horror. Something's feeding them purpose, recent power reanimating ancient threats. Halie, keep that symbol raised but conserve your strength unless I give the word. Merrin, don't just mark their movements—watch for patterns, commands, anything suggesting they're not acting independently. Varrika—if you feel any pull at your mind when we're in striking distance, call it out immediately. Dark magic often tries to slip inside first before the blades come out.

She takes a step forward, voice carrying across the formation without shouting: This is what we came for—the tower's defenders still holding their ancient watch. The Time-Splitting Sword won't be easy to take from guardians who've had centuries to perfect their duty. Her eyes flick to each companion in turn, assessing. But it seems whoever or whatever has been animating them recently... they're not expecting visitors with teeth and willpower. The sorceress's hand moves fractionally toward her spell components, ready but not yet drawing. We move on my signal. Stay in formation—nobody gets isolated or panicked. Her smile shows teeth. Let's show these bone puppets what happens when you underestimate your guests.

Merrin

Merrin · Rogue

The air feels heavy, wrong. It presses against my skin like a palpable presence. I keep the crossbow steady, eyes flicking between the skeletons detaching from the shadows. There's a fluidity to their movements that speaks of purpose rather than mindless hunger. "Something's off about this place," I mutter, more to myself than to anyone else. "The air itself feels... wrong."

I shift my weight, ready to spring into action if needed. My fingers itch to reach for the lockpicks at my belt, but now is not the time for subtle maneuvers. Not when death could come shambling out of the darkness at any moment. "Keep that holy symbol ready, priestess," I call over my shoulder to Halie. "Let's move out, but stay sharp. We don't know what else this tower might be hiding."

My eyes dart to the towering stone walls looming above us. Whatever lies within, it's clear we're not wanted here. But that only makes the prize we seek all the more tantalizing. The Time-Splitting Sword awaits, and with it, the answers to questions older than any of us. I take a deep breath, steadying myself. The crossbow feels heavy in my hands, a reminder of the weight of our task. But we've come this far. No turning back now. "Alright, ladies," I say, forcing a grin. "Let's go see what this tower has in store for us. And try not to get too skeletons about it, yeah?"

I start forward, my eyes never leaving the undead guardians as they stir to life before us. The jokes may come easier than the fighting, but when it comes down to it, I'll do whatever it takes to keep us all breathing. The Time-Splitting Sword is waiting, and Merrin Quickstep always finishes what she starts.

Varrika

Varrika · Fighter

The air is thick with an ancient wrongness, a sense of malevolence that prickles my skin. I grip my mace tighter, the weight of it solid and comforting in my hand. These aren't just mindless undead - there's a purpose to their movements, a coordination that speaks of dark magic at work. I glance back at the others, catching Jeane's eye. "Keep your wits about you," I growl. "These things... they've been reshaped. Given purpose." My gaze flicks to Halie, standing tense beside me, holy symbol raised. "Stay close. Merrin too - we need her quick hands and keen eyes."

The skeletons detach from the shadows, bone-white shapes solidifying into clear threats. I feel a tug at the edges of my mind, a wrongness that makes me want to claw at my own skin. But I stand firm, mace ready. "Alright, ladies," I call out, voice rough but steady. "Let's see what this tower has in store for us." And with that, I step forward, into the unknown.

Halie

Halie · Cleric

I grip my mace tighter, holy symbol already raised before me. The air here is wrong—thick with some ancient, malevolent power. Those... things, they're not shambling like usual undead. They move too fluidly, almost like soldiers still following orders. I glance at Jeane, her face set in concentration as she studies them, and then to Merrin, who looks both determined and terrified behind that crossbow. This place makes my skin crawl. I step closer to Varrika, our best fighter, feeling the need for protection even as I try to project calm. "Stay close," I tell everyone, voice measured. "And be ready. Something tells me this is just the beginning." I can feel the magic in this place, dark and hungry, and it makes my teeth ache. We should turn back—no, Halie, you didn't come all this way to quiver in your boots now. But gods above, what have we gotten ourselves into?
