Round 7 Transcript
Episode 1 · Episode Round 1

At The base of a crumbling stone tower, the pressure shifts from waiting to immediate risk. The ward answers the party's presence with a fresh pulse through the stone and no one can mistake it for safety. The nearest sign of danger is now Skeletons: Undead remnants of the tower's original defenders, now animated by dark magic to endlessly guard their ancient home.. Someone has to answer that change now.
The wrongness pulses outward from the stone like a heartbeat. I draw my heavy mace and step forward, forcing Merrin back half a pace behind Varrika's shield arm. "Halie—keep your symbol raised but don't waste divine energy yet." The bone-white shapes are detaching from the tower's shadow like smoke solidified into geometry. Four... no, six of them now, moving with fluidity that suggests coordinated purpose rather than shambling mindlessness. "Merrin," I snap, sharper than intended, "stop gawking and mark their movement patterns. Not just where they are—watch for commands, for tells suggesting they're not acting independently." My gut twists with the certainty that this is no natural accumulation of undead. Something ancient and powerful is reshaping these remnants into guardians. I turn to Seraphine: "Prepare an area-of-effect spell ready to unleash on my word, but don't cast until I give the signal. We need to assess their vulnerabilities first." The arcane sigils carved into the tower's foundation stone are layered—fresh dark enchantments overlaying what should be centuries-dead wards meant to protect rather than contain. Varrika grips her mace like a weapon made for this exact purpose, and something in that stance reminds me why I chose her for this madness. But when she speaks next, it's not with the confidence I'm accustomed to: "Jeane—if you feel anything pull at your mind when we're in striking distance, call it out immediately."
I meet her eyes, see the hard knowledge there—they aren't just undead, they're infected with something that can spread through intent alone. My wings tighten against my back involuntarily. We need to enter this tower, retrieve that sword, and get out before whatever resurrected these skeletons notices us fully. "Forward," I say, more command than request. "But slow—and if any of you feel even a flicker of influence, speak up."
Jeane, if we can't even—if this place is too much for your magic to handle—the moment you feel anything pulling at you, tell me immediately. I'll have Merrin stay behind with Seraphine, keep them safe and ready to run while Varrika and I deal with whatever... whatever this is. Don't be a hero unless you know what you're doing. We need smart, not just bold.
I keep my crossbow trained on the skeletons as they emerge from the shadows, their movements fluid and purposeful in a way that chills me to the bone. Whatever dark magic is animating them, it's not just the mindless hunger of the undead. "Something's off about this place," I mutter under my breath. "The air itself feels... wrong."
