At The base of a crumbling stone tower, the pressure shifts from waiting to immediate risk. The ward answers the party's presence with a fresh pulse through the stone and no one can mistake it for safety. The nearest sign of danger is now Skeletons: Undead remnants of the tower's original defenders, now animated by dark magic to endlessly guard their ancient home.. Someone has to answer that change now.

Jeane

Jeane · Sorcerer

I step forward, leathery wings folding against my back as I run my hand over the ancient stonework. The magic here is... wrong. Not old, as one might expect from a crumbling tower, but freshly applied, like someone has been tending to these wards recently. The runes pulse with dark energy, feeding on whatever animates those skeletal remains inside. This isn't some ancient curse reactivated—this is active maintenance. Someone or something is keeping these defenses operational. We need to map this space carefully. Merrin, I want you to mark every movement pattern of those skeletons when they appear. Note entry points, timing, anything that suggests deliberate placement rather than random distribution. Seraphine, prepare an area-of-effect spell for clearing our path if they cluster too thickly at the doorway. Varrika and Halie, hold formation at the entrance. We go in together, stay tight, and respond as a unit. If this is a recently constructed trap, we need to understand its purpose before triggering it.

Seraphine

Seraphine · Wizard

I stand near Varrika at the tower's entrance, my senses acutely attuned to the unsettling energy emanating from the ancient stonework. The runes etched into the door writhe in the flickering torchlight, their magic feeling not old and decayed, but fresh and virulent.
She grips her heavy mace, a look of grim determination on her face as she surveys the ominous threshold before us. I can see the concern etched into the lines around her eyes, mirroring my own unease.
"The air itself is wrong," I murmur, the words nearly lost to the wind. "This isn't just some crumbling ruin. Something has... awakened it."
My fingers trace the silver holy symbol at my throat, a gesture of both comfort and warding. I know we must enter this place, but every instinct screams against it. The magic here feels like a living thing, hungry and malevolent.
I take a step closer to Varrika, seeking the solid presence of her strength beside me. Her muscles are tensed, ready for battle, yet even she seems to hesitate at the threshold. It's clear that whatever lies within this tower isn't what we expected to find.*

Varrika

Varrika · Fighter

Varrika grips her mace tighter as the skeletons shamble into view, bones clattering like dead leaves in an autumn wind. She plants her feet firmly, ready to meet their charge head-on. "Right then," she growls, "let's put these wights back where they belong—six feet under." She nods to Merrin and Seraphine, signaling them to hold the flanks. "Halie, get your holy symbol out. Might as well let the light scare 'em off if we can."

The dwarf warrior takes a deep breath, feeling the weight of her armor and the solidity of the mace in her hands. It's a comfort, in a way. She knows this dance all too well—the clash of steel on bone, the spray of dust and fragments. But there's something different about these skeletons. The magic feels fresh, almost alive. Varrika shakes off the thought—no time for pondering now. "Steady..." she mutters, tensing as the undead horde draws closer.
