Round 96 Transcript
Episode 1 · Episode Round 1

The tension in The base of a crumbling stone tower, its entrance sealed by an ancient rune-covered gate, deep within the haunted Whispering Woods tightens for a beat as the interruption refuses to go away. Everyone is forced to stay quiet and choose their next move carefully.
I stand frozen before the tower's gate, my heart pounding against my ribs like a trapped bird. The runes on its surface seem to writhe and pulse with a malevolent life of their own, their ancient magic coiling around us like a noose.
"I don't think brute force is going to work here," I say, my voice so quiet it's nearly lost in the air. "This isn't just a lock; it's a living thing."
My eyes dart towards Merrin, who is already moving away from the gate, her movements sharp and decisive. She’s right, of course. We can’t keep trying the same thing over and over again. But what alternative does that leave us?
"The map," I mutter, turning to Halie. "Show me where other entrances might be. If we can find a way around this ward, perhaps we can slip inside without alerting whatever lies within."
As I speak, a low, ominous growl rumbles from deep within the tower, sending a chill down my spine. It sounds like the world itself is shifting, preparing for our arrival. I shiver, pulling my cloak tighter around me.
"The footsteps are getting closer," *I warn, my voice dropping to a strained whisper. "We need to move now, before whatever is coming gets here first."
I can feel it too—the ward's hunger. It wants in, yes, but I suspect it also wants out. The magic here is ancient and twisted; probably a priestess trapped herself inside during some dark ritual and her power sustained for millennia. We need to understand its mechanics before forcing anything. >Halie, map the runes carefully from distance. Merrin, keep your hands off anything ferrous until we figure out what triggers what—iron against these marks might set off something far worse than a simple lock. Seraphine and I will examine the structure for other entry points while Varrika maintains our perimeter defense. >If this thing's starving after thousands of years, it won't be picky about who it consumes first—especially not someone waving iron tools at its face like bait. We proceed methodically or we retreat and reconsider our approach.
I've been mapping these runes for the last hour, and they're not just wards—they're alive. They're feeding on something inside the tower, something ancient and hungry. We stand here much longer, and we might become part of its meal. I don't care how bored Varrika gets; we're not throwing ourselves at sentient wards because Merrin can't keep her hands off everything ferrous. And before either of you arcane casters get any bright ideas—
