Phase: converging

The ancient runes covering the tower's sealed gate pulse with a hungry light, their appetite for arcane energy palpable even from a distance. Seraphine stands back, her keen elven eyes tracing the shifting patterns with academic fascination mixed with barely concealed apprehension. The air around them hums with dark magic, thick and heavy, pressing down like a physical weight.
Jeane circles the gate slowly, her crimson eyes narrowed in concentration. "Foolish girl," she purrs, glancing at Merrin's precarious position clinging to the tower wall above. "One misplaced hand and you'll be its meal." The halfling freezes mid-climb, her heart hammering. What had they gotten themselves into this time?
The sorceress continues her examination, speaking more seriously now. "These aren't mere wards, they're written in a language of hunger and consumption. The ward wants essence, not just to repel us, but to devour arcane power specifically." She meets Merrin's gaze directly. "Merrin climbing that wall is pointless; whatever's inside will sense you long before you find an entrance. We need to understand these runes completely before we even think about opening the gate or bypassing it with brute force."
Seraphine nods in agreement, her hand still hovering near a spell component at her belt. "The ward is reacting," she mutters, sketching the twisting patterns in her spell journal. "This kind of sentience... it's beyond normal magic. We must proceed with extreme caution." The air seems to grow heavier, the runes' hunger intensifying as they discuss their next move.
Merrin hesitates, torn between curiosity and self-preservation. She eyes the writhing symbols warily, unease prickling her skin. The air feels thick, charged with a hunger that makes her stomach twist. With a soft curse under her breath, she swings herself back onto the wall. "Alright, fine," she mutters, more to herself than Jeane. "But if this is some sort of trap..." Her words trail off as she descends carefully, each handhold chosen with deliberate precision.
The three women stand in tense silence for a long moment, the ancient magic pressing in from all sides. The runes' hunger grows more insistent, their light pulsing with an almost rhythmic intensity. Whatever lies beyond this gate, it's clear they've awakened something ancient and ravenous.
