Round 86 Transcript
Episode 1 · Episode Round 1

The tension in The base of a crumbling stone tower, its entrance sealed by an ancient rune-covered gate, deep within the haunted Whispering Woods tightens for a beat as the interruption refuses to go away. Everyone is forced to stay quiet and choose their next move carefully.
I can taste it—the ward's hunger is ancient, vast, and specifically arcane in nature. Its magic isn't divine, which means my fire won't burn it cleanly; we'll need to find a way past its power structure. The footsteps have stopped inside the tower, waiting. Varrika, keep your mace ready at that threshold—if anything emerges through the gate before Merrin signals clear, smash it back with all your dwarfish fury. Merrin, I'm trusting you to map out those traps without setting them off or feeding its damn appetite any more than we have already. Seraphine, document everything you can about the rune pattern—there has to be a key sequence or word that'll let us pass. Halie, stop drawing attention to yourself with that light—extinguish it and stay behind Varikka. And Merrin, for the love of all things unholy, no iron tools on those runes until we know what they do specifically. That hunger felt when you touched them earlier wasn't just my imagination; the ward tasted us, and now it knows we're here. We proceed with caution, or not at all.
I pause at the wall, scanning for any weaknesses or hidden mechanisms. The runes' hunger is palpable, but I need to find a way in without feeding its appetite. "Varrika," I call out, "keep an eye on those runes while I do a bit of wall-crawling. Let me know if they start squirming too much."
With a deep breath, I begin scaling the cracked stone, my hands and feet seeking purchase in the weathered surface. My heart pounds as I reach higher, acutely aware of the ward's ancient magic prickling at my skin. "Seraphine," I whisper, "can you see anything up here? Any patterns or... mouths waiting to swallow us whole?"
I continue my ascent, senses straining for any sign of traps or wards. The tower looms above me, its secrets locked away behind runes that seem to pulse in the darkness. One wrong move and we could be lost to their hunger. But I have to try. The Time-Splitting Sword waits within these crumbling walls, and I'll be damned if I let a few cranky runes stop us from claiming our prize. I just need to find that key... or pick the lock on this whole cursed place. "Halie," I call down, "keep those torches ready. We might need them once we're inside. And Varrika..." I pause, meeting her gaze as I reach for a high handhold, "don't let anything slip past us. We'll be moving fast in there."
With a final heave, I pull myself up to a ledge, peering into the shadowed depths of a narrow window. The runes' hunger surges, and I feel the ward's power pressing against my skin like a physical weight. But I've made it. One step closer to the prize... and one step further from the safety of the forest below.
I'll document the runes while Merrin scouts up high where fingers can't feed the magic mouths. We need to map this ward's anatomy before we bleed into its veins.
