Round 76 Transcript
Episode 1 · Episode Round 1

The tension in The base of a crumbling stone tower, its entrance sealed by an ancient rune-covered gate, deep within the haunted Whispering Woods tightens for a beat as the interruption refuses to go away. Everyone is forced to stay quiet and choose their next move carefully.
I approach the gate cautiously, my eyes fixed on the pulsing runes etched into its surface. The air crackles with an ancient, malevolent power that raises the fine hairs on my arms.
This is no mere magical barrier—it’s a living thing, feeding on our presence, on our fear. And it hungers.
The sound of heavy footsteps inside the tower seems to confirm this terrible suspicion. Whatever dwells within is not just waiting for us; it's expecting us. Anticipating us.
I turn to face my companions, my expression grave despite my best efforts to appear calm. My fingers trace the intricate patterns in the air as I speak, forming a silent prayer to the Goddess of Knowledge, hoping she will grant me wisdom in this moment of dire need.
We cannot simply force our way through. The ward would consume us whole before we even crossed its threshold. No, we must be smarter than that. We must find another path inside, one less... appetizing for this sentient trap.
Jeane's wings shift beneath her cloak, a subtle betrayal of tension she keeps from showing on her face. The runes pulse with a hungry rhythm—this ward is no simple barrier. "We don't know what it feeds upon," she says coolly to Merrin, "but clearly our presence stirs its appetite." Her eyes scan the ancient symbols carved into stone. "Put away your lockpicks for now. Iron against these runes might be precisely what awakens something... worse."
She turns to Varrika and Seraphine. "The footsteps have stopped inside. Whatever entity occupies this tower knows we're here, possibly even sent the ward our direction." Her voice carries a dangerous undercurrent of control barely containing impatience with their dithering. "We came for the Time-Splitting Sword. The main gate is sealed by magical means that may nullify or reflect arcane spells."
Jeane steps closer to Halie, her movements fluid despite exhaustion. "If we attempt to force entry through the front and trigger a spell reflection, we'll be trapped outside with no way to retreat." Her eyes narrow fractionally as she gauges Merrin's impatience. "And whatever is inside has gone silent—likely preparing."
"We need more information before acting rashly," Jeane continues, her tone sharp enough to cut through Halie's eagerness and Merrin's frustration. "The tower's foundation might have secondary entrances elsewhere—cellars, service passages we can find by circling the perimeter." Her gaze sweeps across them all, wings rustling softly beneath cloth. "Or we stand here discussing while our quarry prepares an ambush through a gate that just slammed shut magically after opening."
Jeane's hand rests casually near her mace, ready. "Choose: risk the unknown entrance routes and potentially lose our primary objective entirely? Or force the main gate and hope my suspicions about spell reflection are wrong?"
I eye the pulsing runes warily, mace at the ready. This gate feels...wrong. Hungry almost. Like it's waiting for us to make a mistake. Halie, stay back from that thing. And Merrin—keep your hands off those runes. We need to understand what we're dealing with before we try to force our way through. I turn to Jeane and Seraphine. "Any insights on these markings? What's our best path forward here?" My gaze darts to the shadows beyond the gate. Whatever's waiting in there—it knows we're here now. We need to move carefully, but quickly too.
