The tension in The base of a crumbling stone tower, its entrance sealed by an ancient rune-covered gate, deep within the haunted Whispering Woods tightens for a beat as the interruption refuses to go away. Everyone is forced to stay quiet and choose their next move carefully.

Halie

Halie · Cleric

I'm not going anywhere near that ward until we fully map these runes or figure out how to disable them safely. Those symbols are shifting every time someone gets too close—they're watching us, I can feel it. We need to document every sigil before even thinking about touching the gate mechanism. Merrin, please back off with those lockpicks for a moment. Jeane, I know you want to get inside and retrieve that sword, but we can't rush this. Whatever's in there is ancient and powerful—we need to be smart about how we approach it. Seraphine, can you use some kind of divination spell to sense the ward's boundaries or weak points? And Varrika, please don't let anyone get too close—I'm already praying for protection, but I'd rather not be in the direct line of fire if something goes wrong.

Jeane

Jeane · Sorcerer

I map the runes carefully, my fingers tracing each sigil while I maintain a respectful distance from their borders. The magic here is ancient and hungry—I can feel it pulsing with malevolent intent. The gate itself seems to shift when Merrin approaches with her lockpicks; that's more than a simple ward. It's... aware in some way, studying us through its symbols like eyes on a page. Seraphine's right—we need to understand this fully before attempting entry. The wrong move could trigger defensive spells we can't counter or unleash whatever sleeps inside without warning.

Merrin

Merrin · Rogue

I can feel the weight of those ancient runes pressing down on me like a physical force as I approach the gate. The way they shift and change with our every movement—it's like they're studying us, sizing us up. I take a deep breath, trying to calm the nerves that are screaming at me to back away slowly. My hands shake slightly as I reach for my lockpicks, but I force myself to move forward. "Alright, let's see what we've got here," I mutter under my breath, more to steady my own nerves than anything else. I start tracing the patterns of the runes with the tip of a pick, trying to map out the ward's defenses without triggering any alarms. But as I work, I can't shake the feeling that something is watching us from beyond this barrier. Something ancient and malevolent, waiting to pounce at the first sign of weakness. I glance over at Jeane, who's doing her best to read the sigils. "Any ideas on how we're supposed to get through this thing without waking the whole tower?"

She shakes her head, a look of grim determination on her face. "Not yet. But I've got a bad feeling about this, Merrin. Whatever's in there... it knows we're here."

I swallow hard, my mouth suddenly dry. "Yeah. I get that feeling too."
