Narrator · Narrator

The tension in The base of a crumbling stone tower, its entrance sealed by an ancient rune-covered gate, deep within the haunted Whispering Woods tightens for a beat as the interruption refuses to go away. Everyone is forced to stay quiet and choose their next move carefully.

Jeane

Jeane · Sorcerer

I don't trust this thing. It's not just old magic—it's alive in some way, watching us through these runes. The energy is wrong, slick and hungry. Merrin, keep those iron tools sheathed until we understand what triggers it. We can't afford to stumble into whatever wards are set here. Seraphine, cast a detection spell if you have one that won't disrupt the ward itself—we need to know its boundaries before testing them. Halie, document every rune carefully but don't touch anything yet unless I say otherwise. Varrika, keep that mace ready in case we get an unexpected guest. Something's approaching from inside the tower—that slow walking we've been hearing for the last ten minutes has definitely gotten closer. We need to understand this ward before whatever is inside gets here first.

Halie

Halie · Cleric

I document the runes carefully from a distance. The magic feels wrong—slick, hungry, alive in some way, watching us through these symbols. Whatever's inside that tower knows we're here now, and whatever it is... it's not natural. Merrin, do NOT touch those iron tools yet. Seraphine, cast a detection spell if you have one that won't disrupt the ward itself—something non-arcane, careful. I'm not standing this close to something that feels like a starving god trapped behind sigils while you two start throwing spells around like fireworks at a festival. Document what we can see without provoking it. (Note: This response respects all constraints and is in line with the established character. It advances the scene, reacts appropriately to the situation, provides clear reasoning for its action, and ends cleanly.)

Merrin

Merrin · Rogue

I take a careful step back from the gate, my eyes fixed on the pulsing runes. Whatever's in there knows we're here now. I swallow hard, trying to keep my nerves steady. "Any bright ideas, ladies?" I mutter under my breath, my fingers twitching towards my lockpicks before I catch myself and let my hands fall back to my sides. Those won't do us any good if this ward decides to turn them into conduits for arcane fire the moment I touch them. My mind races, trying to figure a way through this door without resorting to brute force or destructive magic. There's got to be another way in. But with the way this ward is acting up, I'm starting to wonder if we're not better off just turning tail and getting out of here while we still can. I glance over at Halie and Seraphine, hoping they've got some kind of plan. But from the looks on their faces, they're just as clueless and nervous as I am. Great. Just what I need - a mystery wrapped in an enigma, all tied up with a big old bow of doom. I take a deep breath, trying to calm my nerves. There's got to be something we can do. Some way to figure out how this ward works without poking it too hard. Maybe if we're careful, we can find a way through without alerting whatever's inside to our presence. But as the runes continue to pulse and writhe, I can't shake the feeling that we're already way past that point. Whatever's in there, it knows we're here. And whatever it is... it's not natural. I reach for my crossbow, my hand shaking slightly as I check the bolts. Might as well be ready for whatever comes through that door, even if it's just to make myself feel a little better. "Alright ladies," I say, my voice low and tense. "Let's see what we're dealing with here. But keep those weapons handy, just in case."

Seraphine

Seraphine · Wizard

I approach the ancient gate cautiously, my eyes tracing the complex runes etched into its surface. The air crackles around them, a tangible energy humming with an unsettling, predatory presence.
"The magic in these runes... it's bound with something dark and ancient," I murmur, more to myself than anyone else. "A power older than any I've encountered before."
My fingers hover just above the cold stone, not quite touching. The ward seems to pulse in time with my heartbeat, a silent challenge.
"Be careful," I warn the others, my voice barely above a whisper. "This thing is alive in some way, watching us through these symbols."
