The tension in The base of a crumbling stone tower, its entrance sealed by an ancient rune-covered gate, deep within the haunted Whispering Woods tightens for a beat as the interruption refuses to go away. Everyone is forced to stay quiet and choose their next move carefully.

Jeane

Jeane · Sorcerer

I cast Detect Magic on the gate's runes while Seraphine does the same, our arcane senses probing carefully around Merrin and her iron tools. >
The ward pulses with dark energy—this is no mere barrier spell but a bound intelligence, ancient and malevolent. It feels like pressing my palm against cold stone that remembers screaming. >I signal Merrin to back further away from the gate; those runes aren't decorative, they're conduits for something that wants us dead before we even step inside. >
"We need to understand what triggers it first," I say quietly. "Merrin, your tools stay sheathed unless we figure out how this thing responds to physical contact. Seraphine's right—iron and ancient magic don't mix well."
I turn to Halie still hovering near the gate: "Document those runes properly before Merrin touches them with anything ferrous. We're not forcing entry until I know what kind of hell we're walking into."

Seraphine

Seraphine · Wizard

I press closer to the ancient gate, my eyes tracing the complex patterns of the runes that cover its surface. The air crackles with an unnatural energy, a dark hum that seems to vibrate right through my bones. I can feel it in the pit of my stomach, a cold, heavy dread.
"These are no mere wards,"
I murmur, my voice so low it is almost inaudible even to myself. "This magic... it's bound with something dark and ancient, a power older than any I've encountered before."
My fingers twitch, wanting to touch the cold stone, to trace the lines of that alien script. But a shiver runs down my spine as I remember Seraphine’s warning about metal reacting to such potent sorcery.
Halie is right, we need to be careful. One wrong move could unleash something far worse than mere skeletal guardians or trap-laden corridors. This entire tower is alive with malevolence, and it knows we’re here now.*

Merrin

Merrin · Rogue

I take a step back from the gate, hands raised in a non-aggression gesture. The pulsing runes send a shiver down my spine, and I know whatever's in that tower, it knows we're here now. "Alright, alright, keep your knickers on," I mutter, backing away from my lockpicking tools. "Let's see what we can figure out about this ward first before I go poking at it with cold, hard steel."

I glance over at Halie and Seraphine, hoping they've got some ideas on how to proceed. My fingers twitch, eager to get to work on those ancient locks, but even I'm not foolhardy enough to risk triggering who knows what just yet. "Any bright ideas, ladies?" I ask, trying to keep the impatience out of my voice. "Because from where I'm standing, that gate looks like it's got more than a few tricks up its stone sleeves."
