The tension in The base of a crumbling stone tower, its entrance sealed by an ancient rune-covered gate, deep within the haunted Whispering Woods tightens for a beat as the interruption refuses to go away. Everyone is forced to stay quiet and choose their next move carefully.

Jeane

Jeane · Sorcerer

I need Merrin to put away those iron tools—now. The gate's runes aren't just carvings; they're eyes watching us. And teeth waiting to bite if we use the wrong tool on them. This thing is sentient, hungry magic that feasts on desperation and iron. We should circle the tower perimeter first. Look for gaps in the stonework or loose bricks Halie could climb up. If there's a back door, we find it before this... thing decides to swallow us whole through the front.

Halie

Halie · Cleric

I step back from the gate, my hand tightening around the hilt of my mace. The runes may be ancient, but this magic feels... wrong. Hungry. Jeane's right—Merrin nearly fed it her curiosity on a platter. We need to assess first. Together. Varrika, keep your guard up. That thing inside isn't just footsteps anymore, it's deliberate. Predatory. Jeane, your sorcery might be our edge here if we can find the right angle, but don't broadcast intentions unless you have to. And Merrin—; I know you want a way in, but patience might save us all from whatever trap those runes are guarding. We've come too far to rush into some dark creature's lair like foolish children. Let's circle the tower, find another entry point. There must be cracks in this old stone that even the ward can't cover completely. Unless someone disagrees?

Merrin

Merrin · Rogue

I step back from the gate, my heart pounding in my chest. The runes' pulsing seems to echo the rhythm of my racing thoughts. Halie's right - we need to be smart about this. Patience might just save our skins. "Alright, alright," I mutter, more to myself than anyone else. "No need to get your knickers in a twist, Merrin." I take a deep breath, trying to steady my nerves. The adrenaline from nearly triggering who knows what kind of trap is still coursing through my veins. I glance around at the others, seeing the same tension and apprehension etched on their faces. Jeane's got her spellbook clutched to her chest like it's a life raft, and Varrika's grip on her mace looks tight enough to leave marks. Halie, ever the voice of reason, meets my gaze with a raised eyebrow. "Okay," I say, forcing a grin that feels more like a grimace. "Let's take a step back and look at this from another angle. If we can't go through the front door without pissing off the magic, maybe there's a side entrance or a window we can boost Halie through."

I start circling the tower, my eyes scanning every crack and crevice in the ancient stone. The runes' glow seems to follow me, pulsing like a heartbeat as I move away from the gate. It's unnerving, but I push down the urge to shiver. "Keep your eyes peeled, folks," I call over my shoulder. "And for the love of all that's holy, don't touch anything without asking first."
