The tension in The base of a crumbling stone tower, its entrance sealed by an ancient rune-covered gate, deep within the haunted Whispering Woods. tightens for a beat as the interruption refuses to go away. Everyone is forced to stay quiet and choose their next move carefully.

Jeane

Jeane · Sorcerer

These runes are ancient and potent—far beyond mere locks. The magic here is alive, watching us even now. I sense... guardians within, awakened by our presence perhaps. Merrin, be careful probing that mechanism; Seraphine, I want your magical senses extended past the barrier if you can manage it without drawing attention. Varrika, everyone stays behind cover until we know what's waiting on the other side of this threshold.

Halie

Halie · Cleric

I step closer to the gate, my holy symbol held ready in one hand, the other gripping my mace. The air grows heavy with each step, like walking against a physical force, and the runes pulse with a dark light that makes my skin crawl. We need to be careful here—this magic isn't ancient, it's active, and I don't think it wants visitors. Merrin, whatever you're doing, go slow. Those runes might be more than just a lock.

Merrin

Merrin · Rogue

I approach the gate cautiously, my fingers tracing the intricate runes etched into the ancient stone. The energy emanating from the barrier is palpable, raising the hairs on the back of my neck. I can sense the dark magic pulsing beneath my touch, warning of the dangers that lie beyond. As I probe the lock mechanism, searching for any hidden catches or triggers, I find myself whispering to myself, "If there's a way in, I'll find it." My companions watch me intently, their eyes filled with apprehension and curiosity. I know we're all tired from the journey, but the thought of what awaits us inside the tower fills me with a sense of unease. I've heard tales of the undead guardians that protect this place, and the shadow demons that are said to lurk within its walls. But we have a mission, and I'm determined to see it through. I continue to examine the lock, my mind racing as I try to decipher the riddles etched into the stone. The runes seem to shimmer with an ominous energy, and I can't shake the feeling that we're being watched. As I work, I call out to Halie, "Hold on a moment, let me take a closer look." I know that her holy symbol might be able to ward off any dark magic that we encounter, but I also know that she's just as exhausted as the rest of us. I turn to Varrika, the dwarf fighter who has been our rock through countless battles. "Varrika, keep that holy symbol ready," I say, knowing that her strength and courage will be essential if we're to make it out of this alive. And then there's Seraphine, the young elven wizard who has already proven herself to be a valuable ally in our quest. I know that her magical abilities will be crucial in unraveling the mysteries of the tower, but I also worry about her safety. As I continue to work on the lock, I can feel the eyes of my companions on me, watching and waiting for any sign of progress. I know that we're all on edge, and that the slightest misstep could spell our doom. But I push those thoughts aside and focus on the task at hand. I've faced worse odds before, and I know that with luck and skill, we can make it through this too. I just hope that my luck holds out, because in a place like this, even the smallest mistake could be our undoing.

Seraphine

Seraphine · Wizard

I stand before the ancient rune-covered gate, feeling the weight of history and magic pressing down upon me. The carvings seem to writhe in the dim light filtering through the trees, each symbol a whisper of power long forgotten by most. My fingers trace the intricate patterns, and a shiver runs down my spine as I sense an otherworldly energy humming just beneath my skin.
My mind races with possibilities, each more daunting than the last. These runes speak of binding, of guardianship, of forces far beyond our understanding. The very air feels thick with wrongness, charged with a malevolent intent that makes the hair on my arms stand on end.
"The runes on this door are not just for decoration," I murmur to no one in particular, my voice so low it's nearly lost to the wind. I look up at Jeane, her face etched with the same apprehension I feel churning in my gut. "Can you sense anything specific beyond this barrier? Some hint of what lies within?"

Varrika

Varrika · Fighter

I shift my weight, mace at the ready as I watch Halie approach the gate. The runes seem to pulse in time with my heartbeat, each flash of dark energy sending a chill down my spine. "Careful now," I mutter under my breath, my eyes scanning the area for any signs of movement. As Merrin steps forward to examine the lock mechanism, I find myself tensing. The hair on the back of my neck stands on end as an ominous energy emanates from the barrier. It feels like we're being watched, studied by some unseen force. "Easy there, rogue," I warn, "don't go poking anything you shouldn't."

Seraphine's words echo in my mind as she speaks to Jeane. The runes are more than just decoration, they serve a purpose. To keep us out or something else inside? I can't shake the feeling that whatever lies beyond this gate is not meant for mortal eyes. My grip tightens on the mace as I prepare for the worst. If undead horrors await us beyond this barrier, we'll need to be ready. I position myself between Halie and the gate, ready to shield her with my body if necessary. The cleric is our healer, our heart. We can't afford to lose her. As Jeane and Seraphine discuss their plans, I find myself wishing for a simpler time. When the greatest threat was a pack of wolves or a wandering orc. Now we stand at the precipice of danger, facing an unknown evil that even magic may not be able to overcome. But there's no turning back now. We've come too far, sacrificed too much. All we can do is trust in each other and face whatever lies ahead, one step at a time. With a deep breath, I ready myself for the fight to come. "Alright you lot," I growl, "let's see what this gate has in store for us."
