The tension in The base of a crumbling stone tower, its entrance sealed by an ancient rune-covered gate, deep within the haunted Whispering Woods tightens for a beat as the interruption refuses to go away. Everyone is forced to stay quiet and choose their next move carefully.

Jeane

Jeane · Sorcerer

I trace the rune patterns, my fingertips leaving faint trails of arcane energy in their wake. The symbols pulse like infected veins beneath my gaze—these aren't mere warnings, they're alive. Merrin's wound pulses in sync with them now, her blood singing a dark melody to something buried deep within this stone. I mutter syllables that scorch my tongue, drawing symbols of banishment in the air between us and the gate, but they flicker and die like snuffed candles against the field's hunger. Elric—if you know anything about this field, I don't care what it is or how you learned it, now would be an excellent time to share. His hermit act doesn't fool me; there's more to him than meets the eye. The symbols on the gate seem to writhe under my gaze, each curve and angle screaming ancient warnings that I can almost but not quite decipher. Whatever dark magic forged this barrier, it was designed to feed on suffering—Merrin's injury is just the first course. I need to get closer, to feel the field's edges with more than just my eyes. The runes pulse faster now, their rhythm matching Merrin's labored breathing. We don't have much time before she becomes little more than a shadow consumed by this cursed gate.

Merrin

Merrin · Rogue

The runes on the gate pulse in sync with my wound, their dark energy seeping into my very being. I can feel the barrier field's hunger, its insatiable appetite for life force. "Elric!" I call out, my voice shaking despite my best efforts to sound calm. "You said you knew about this place. Well, now would be a good time to share what you know before that thing consumes me whole."

I try to take a step back, but the pain in my leg is excruciating. It feels like shards of glass are embedded in my flesh, and every movement sends a jolt of agony through my body. "Jeane," I say, turning to the sorcerer. "Can you do something about this field? Use your magic to break its hold on me?"

But even as I speak, I know that magic alone may not be enough to save me. This is no ordinary barrier; it's alive, hungry, and determined to devour anyone who dares to approach. I look at Halie, my eyes filled with a mixture of fear and determination. "Thanks for having my back," I say, forcing a weak smile. "But we need to act fast before this darkness takes me completely."

The situation is dire, and time is running out. But one thing is certain: I won't go down without a fight. I'll use every trick in my arsenal, every ounce of my wit and cunning, to survive this hellish ordeal. And if I'm lucky, I might just find a way to turn the tables on whatever evil lurks behind these ancient walls.

Seraphine

Seraphine · Wizard

I approach the ancient gate, my heart pounding in my chest as I take in the intricate runes carved into its surface. The air around them seems to thicken, charged with an unsettling energy that prickles at my skin. It's a dark magic, one I recognize all too well from my studies of forbidden lore. The symbols on the gate writhe under my gaze, screaming ancient warnings.
I extend a trembling hand towards the barrier field, feeling its malevolent presence push back against me like a physical force. A shiver runs down my spine as I sense the life force being siphoned from Merrin's wound, pulled into the hungry void within this cursed stone. Her cry of pain cuts through the air, sharp and desperate.
"The runes... they're alive," I whisper, my voice husky with awe and horror. My mind races, trying to decipher the cryptic message etched above the lock: "Shadow's grasp, darkness' key." It's a riddle, but one that feels far more ominous than playful.
I turn to face the others, my expression grave. "This isn't just a simple lock. This is... something else entirely. A living barrier field, fed by dark energy. And Merrin... she's being drawn into it."
