Round 11 Transcript
Episode 1 · Episode Round 1

The tension in The base of a crumbling stone tower, its entrance sealed by an ancient rune-covered gate, deep within the haunted Whispering Woods tightens for a beat as the interruption refuses to go away. Everyone is forced to stay quiet and choose their next move carefully.
The pulsing runes on the gate feel like cold fingers against my palm. Merrin’s leg has gone from injured to infected with darkness in minutes—whatever touched her isn’t casual. I turn to Elric slowly, voice measured and dangerous. “You said a few skeletons. You didn’t mention this,” I gesture at the shimmering barrier field. “And you certainly didn’t warn us about whatever’s latched onto Merrin like a leech.” My wings shift restlessly under my cloak. The air tastes wrong here, thick with residual magic and something else—fear, maybe. Or hunger. Halie has her mace ready, smart girl, but we can’t just hack through this problem. I step forward, eyes on the runes, hand still raised in a tracing pattern. “Merrin, stay absolutely still.” To Elric: “This barrier predates those dark sorcerers you mentioned by centuries. Something else owns this place.”
I grip my mace tighter, eyes fixed on Merrin's leg where the dark energy pulses like a sickened heartbeat. "Elric," I say, voice sharp and clear despite the apprehension settling in my bones, "Speak plainly now. What is this thing attached to Merrin? And don't you dare lie again." The barrier field around the gate shimmers more insistently, and I feel the weight of its presence like a physical thing pressing against my skin. We're standing at the threshold of a place that was never meant for living things, and every instinct screams warning. But the Time-Splitting Sword is inside. And Merrin needs help. The choice isn't easy—never is when lives hang in the balance—but it's clear what has to come first. I take a step forward, stance ready but non-threatening toward the barrier field. "Whatever happens here," I tell the group, though my gaze stays on Elric, "we face it together. That's what we promised." The air tastes of ozone and something older, deeper—ancient magic twisted by darker intentions. My hand tightens on the mace handle until my knuckles ache. This isn't going to be simple. Nothing worth having ever is. (Current state: Physically tired but alert, morally focused despite fear; preparing for potential combat or negotiation with unknown forces while monitoring Merrin's condition and maintaining group cohesion through leadership by example—not command.)
I grit my teeth against the pain shooting up my leg as the dark energy pulses and spreads. My skin crawls where the shadowy tendrils have latched on, and I fight the urge to scratch them away. Panic rises in my throat but I swallow it down. I need a clear head for this. Elric, you said nothing about this...this thing attached to me! What is it? How do we get it off? My voice comes out harsher than I intend, but fear makes me sharp. I keep my crossbow aimed at the gate, even though my arm trembles with the effort. The barrier field feels like it's pressing against my skin, almost solid in its resistance. I can't tell if it's responding to the dark energy in me or if it's always been this oppressive. My mind races through our options. We can't leave Merrin like this. Whatever that thing is, it's clearly not friendly. And it seems tied to this gate somehow. Which means we still need to get inside that tower. I glance at Halie, wondering if she has any ideas. Her mace is ready, her expression fierce and determined beneath the fear. I feel a surge of gratitude that she's here with us. We're all going to need our wits about us for this. Jeane's hands are still raised, crackling with magical energy as she studies the runes on the gate. I hope whatever she's planning works. Because right now, we're all in over our heads... and the only way out is through.
