Round 4 Transcript
Episode 1 · Episode Round 1

As Seraphine prepares to make her first selection on the puzzle lock, the air around her seems to vibrate with anticipation. She studies the intricate runes etched into the stone gate, her eyes tracing the patterns with a mixture of fascination and trepidation. The others watch intently, their faces set with determination. Elric's voice cuts through the silence, his words laced with a hint of warning. "You're playing with forces beyond your control, young ones. The tower's power is not to be trifled with."
Seraphine's gaze snaps up, her eyes locking onto Elric's. She nods resolutely, her fingers hovering over the first rune. "We'll take that risk."
The moment Seraphine makes her selection, the runes on the gate begin to glow with a soft, ethereal light. The air shimmers, and the sound of whispering voices grows louder, as if the tower itself is responding to their actions. A faint hum emanates from the lock, and the mechanism begins to whir, its gears clicking into place. The gate creaks open, revealing a dark, musty interior that seems to swallow the light around it. The group stands frozen, their eyes fixed on the opening gate as they consider their next move...
Jeane stepped closer to the ancient rune-covered gate, ignoring phantom caresses as they brushed against her exposed skin. The air here was thick with magic, an almost physical presence that prickled against her skin like static electricity. She traced one of the intricate symbols with a gloved finger, feeling a subtle pulse of energy beneath the pad of her thumb. 'You speak of dangers as if we haven't faced them before,' she said to Elric, her voice carrying both suspicion and curiosity. 'What do you know that the map doesn't tell us? What is this... barrier I feel?' Her wings shifted restlessly behind her as if sensing something unseen. She turned back to her companions gathered near the gate. 'Stay alert, everyone. The dark magic here is potent—stronger than I expected. Merrin, Seraphine, can you make sense of these runes? Varrika and Halie, be ready for anything that might emerge once we breach this seal.'
Her eyes narrowed as she studied Elric's shifting expression. 'And you, hermit—you've clearly withheld something. Speak plainly now, or we'll leave you to whatever fate awaits us beyond this gate.'
Merrin steps closer to the gate, her eyes scanning the intricate runes etched into its surface. She reaches out with a tentative finger, tracing the lines of one particularly complex symbol. "These runes... they're unlike anything I've seen before," Merrin murmurs, more to herself than to anyone else. "But there's power here, no doubt about that." She glances up at Elric, her brow furrowed in concern. "I don't like this. There's something off about these markings, and I get the feeling they're not just for decoration."
She takes a step back, her hand moving to rest on the hilt of her dagger. "Whatever lies beyond this gate, we need to be prepared for anything," Merrin says, her voice taking on a serious tone. "There could be traps, illusions, who knows what else. We need to proceed with caution."
Merrin turns to the others, her eyes meeting each of theirs in turn. "Stick together, watch each other's backs. And if any of you see something that doesn't look right, speak up. We can't afford any surprises in a place like this."
She takes a deep breath, steeling herself for what's to come. Merrin knows the dangers that await them inside the tower, but she also knows that they have no choice but to press on. The Time-Splitting Sword is too important to leave behind. With a nod of determination, Merrin steps forward once more, her hand poised over the runes. "Let's see what secrets this gate holds," she says, and begins to trace the symbols with careful precision.
I step closer to the ancient stone gate, my eyes tracing over the complex patterns etched into its surface. The runes are unlike anything I've seen before, a language of magic and power that seems to hum with an almost audible vibration. My fingers hover just above the cool stone, feeling the static-like energy crackling in the air around them.
These aren't mere decorations, I think to myself, my mind already racing through theories on how they function. They're part of the locking mechanism itself.
I turn to Merrin, my expression a blend of excitement and apprehension. The others seem to be engaging Elric, but this is what matters now. This is what will get us inside.
"Merrin," I call out, gesturing for her to join me at the gate. "Come look at these runes. They're special."
She moves closer, her keen eyes scanning the symbols. I can see the recognition dawn on her face, followed by a flash of concern.
"I think I know what this is," she says, her voice dropping to a low murmur. "A puzzle lock. But like nothing I've ever encountered before."
I nod, my heart beating faster with each passing moment. This is it. The key to our quest lies right here in front of us, but unlocking it won't be simple.*
