The tension in The base of a crumbling stone tower, its entrance sealed by an ancient rune-covered gate, deep within the haunted Whispering Woods tightens for a beat as the interruption refuses to go away. Everyone is forced to stay quiet and choose their next move carefully.

Jeane

Jeane · Sorcerer

I trace the ancient runes with my fingertips, feeling their cold energy pulse against my skin. Elric's warnings echo in my mind—was he genuinely concerned for our safety or simply afraid to face whatever horrors lurk within these walls? The thought sends an unfamiliar chill down my spine as I glance at Varrika, noting her barely contained hunger directed towards the tower entrance. It's a familiar heat stirring beneath that apprehension—a predatory curiosity that makes me want to test just how strong this sorcerer's defenses truly are. Seraphine's words about the runes prickle at my thoughts. A key before a lock? Perhaps, but which key is meant for whom? I step closer to Merrin, studying her careful examination of the gate's carvings. "What do you see?" My voice carries genuine curiosity even as suspicion coils in my gut.

Halie

Halie · Cleric

Halie stepped forward, her heavy mace gripped tightly in both hands, the silver holy symbol of the Goddess of Light gleaming at her throat. The crumbling stone tower loomed before them, its entrance sealed by an ancient gate covered in ominous runes that seemed to writhe and shift in the fading light. She felt a cold dread settle in her bones, but beneath it, a fierce determination burned. "We cannot turn back now," she said, her voice steady despite the fear that gripped her heart. "If this Time-Splitting Sword truly holds the power to save our village, then we must try. The Goddess of Light guides us, I am certain of it." She met Elric's worried gaze. "I understand your concern, but we have come too far to let fear stop us. Tell me, what kind of magic is at work here? What dangers lie beyond that gate?"

She glanced around at her companions—Jeane the sorceress, Merrin the nimble halfling rogue, Varrika the dwarf fighter with her insatiable hunger for glory, and Seraphine the wise elven wizard. Each face wore a mixture of apprehension and resolve, reflections of her own conflicted heart. "Whatever lies ahead," she continued, "we face it together. Our skills complement one another—Jeane's magic, Merrin's cunning, Varrika's strength, Seraphine's wisdom, and my healing light. Together, we can overcome any challenge." She moved closer to the gate, her eyes tracing the intricate patterns of the runes. "But first, we must understand what locks this door. Elric, please—tell us everything you know about these markings."

She wasn't going to let them stand here forever, frozen by doubt and fear. They had a purpose, a duty. And Halie would see it through, no matter the cost. The air seemed to crackle with energy as she drew near, and she felt a strange pulling sensation, like the very stones were calling to her. Was this the power of the sword? Or something darker? Either way, they had come too far to turn back now. "Tell us," she urged softly, her voice barely carrying over the sound of the wind whistling through the tower's crumbling stones. "What secrets does this gate hold?"

Merrin

Merrin · Rogue

I inch closer to examine the ancient runes etched into the tower's gate, my eyes darting between the complex patterns and the worried faces of my companions. Elric's warning echoes in my mind, but the promise of the Time-Splitting Sword outweighs the risk. I trace the outlines of a particularly intricate symbol, feeling a tingling sensation at my fingertips. "These runes... they're unlike anything I've seen before," I murmur, more to myself than anyone else. "But there's power here, no doubt about that." I glance over at Jeane and Seraphine, who are also scrutinizing the gate. "What do you make of them?"

My hand hovers near one of the larger runes, my curiosity battling with the dread of what might happen if I touch it. I take a deep breath, trying to calm my nerves. Whatever lies beyond this gate, we'll face it together. I just hope our determination is enough to overcome whatever challenges await us inside.

Seraphine

Seraphine · Wizard

I run my fingers lightly over the intricate runes carved into the ancient stone of the tower gate, feeling the cool, rough texture beneath my fingertips. The magic humming through them is palpable, a low vibration that seems to resonate deep within my bones. "These aren't just decorative," I murmur, more to myself than to anyone else. "They're part of the locking mechanism."
My eyes narrow as I trace a particularly complex spiral pattern, following its path with an almost hypnotic precision. It reminds me of the workings of a spell I once studied, one that required immense focus and a delicate touch to cast properly.
"I think... yes, I'm certain now," I say, my voice gaining confidence as I piece together the fragments of knowledge in my mind. "This is a puzzle lock. The runes must be touched in a specific sequence to open the gate."
I look up at Merrin, who is still examining the gate with intense curiosity, and give her a small, determined smile. Her presence here, her shared determination to unravel this mystery, feels like a steadying force against the unknown dangers that surely lie ahead.
"Merrin, can you see what I mean? It's almost like a riddle written in stone." I gesture towards the spiral pattern. "Perhaps we should start with the largest runes first. They might be the key to unlocking the rest of the sequence."
