The tension in The base of a crumbling stone tower with a newly revealed passage and a collapsed staircase tightens for a beat as the interruption refuses to go away. Everyone is forced to stay quiet and choose their next move carefully.

Jeane

Jeane · Sorcerer

I trace the pulsing sigils on the wall, my fingers sparking faintly as I channel arcane sight into the stonework. The air grows thick with malevolent intent—this isn't simple corruption, this is active containment. The seals aren't just warnings, they're holding something back that doesn't belong in our world. Whatever's behind them... it's not part of this tower's natural order. We're not going that way. The risk is too great—the sigils are alive with dark power, and the longer we linger near them, the more attention we might draw. Varrika wants to push forward recklessly, but her fighter's instincts are clouded by impatience. Merrin's scraped knee is trivial compared to what awaits beyond those seals if they fail. Halie... I'll find a way to get her out, but not by walking into a trap.(I turn to Seraphine) Can you sense any other paths up this gods-forsaken tower? There has to be an alternative route that doesn't require us to play savior to whatever ancient evil is locked behind those runes.

Seraphine

Seraphine · Wizard

The malevolent energy from the runes pulses against my skin like a physical force, raising goosebumps on my arms beneath my robes. I can feel its ancient power resonating deep within my bones, a chilling warning of what lies beyond this crumbling wall. I take a step back from the exposed corridor, my gaze fixed on the intricate sigils etched into the stone. They are not mere decoration, but active seals containing something foul and powerful. A shiver runs down my spine as I recall tales of ancient evils locked away by long-dead wizards, their prisons now weakened by time. My eyes dart around the group, taking in Merrin's injured state and Halie's predicament beneath the rubble. We are already at a disadvantage, and this new development only amplifies the danger. "We cannot proceed through this corridor without first understanding what we're dealing with," I say, my voice low but firm. The words feel heavy on my tongue, each syllable a commitment to a path that promises no easy answers. I turn to Varrika, her presence a steadying force amidst the chaos. "Varrika, can you sense any other paths up this tower? Perhaps there is another way to reach the top floor without disturbing whatever lies sealed behind these runes."
My attention then shifts to Jeane, whose arcane sight has proven invaluable in the past. "Jeane, what do you make of these seals? Can you discern their purpose or the nature of what they contain?"
The questions hang in the air, a fragile thread connecting our disparate knowledge and skills. We stand on the precipice of a great unknown, the Time-Splitting Sword still an elusive prize, but the cost of its retrieval suddenly feels much higher than mere risk to life and limb.

Varrika

Varrika · Fighter

The dwarf warrior Varrika steps forward, her heavy mace at the ready. Her eyes scan the crumbling stone walls of the tower's base, searching for any sign of danger or a way forward. "Halie, can you hear me?" she calls out, her gravel-edged voice echoing through the rubble-filled chamber. "Merrin, get your arse over here and help me clear a path."

She turns to address the others, her brow furrowed with concern. "Seraphine, Jeane, start thinking about alternatives. There's no way we're going through that sealed corridor without knowing what we're dealing with."

Varrika's gaze lingers on the intricate sigils etched into the stone, a chill running down her spine. She's seen enough of these ancient runes to know they're not mere decorations. No, these are active seals, containing something foul. "Whatever's behind those runes, it doesn't belong in this realm," she mutters, more to herself than anyone else. "And I'll be damned if I let it out."

She takes a deep breath, steeling herself for whatever challenges lie ahead. "Alright, listen up. Halie's trapped, Merrin's injured, and we've got a tower full of unknown horrors waiting for us. But we didn't come this far just to turn back now."

Varrika's eyes harden with determination. "We'll find another way up this gods-forsaken tower, and we'll retrieve that sword. And if anything tries to stop us..." She tightens her grip on the heavy mace. "Well, they'll learn what happens when they cross a dwarf warrior."

She looks around at her companions, her expression serious but resolute. "Any objections? Because this is happening, one way or another."
