Round 90 Transcript
Episode 1 · Episode Round 1

The tension in The base of a crumbling stone tower with a newly revealed passage and a collapsed staircase tightens for a beat as the interruption refuses to go away. Everyone is forced to stay quiet and choose their next move carefully.
Merrin's gaze darts frantically around the tower entrance, her heart pounding in her chest. The air feels thick with malevolent energy, and the whispers seem to grow louder with each passing moment. Halie's desperate cries from beneath the rubble snap Merrin into action. "Halie!" she shouts, scrambling over the debris. "Hold on, we're coming!" Her hands shake as she tries to stabilize the rubble, fearing that any wrong move could trigger an unknown danger. The ancient runes pulse ominously in the dim light, their power barely contained. Merrin's injured knee throbs with pain as she shifts a large stone, but she grits her teeth and pushes on. "Varrika, help me lift this one!" she calls out, pointing to a particularly heavy block. Together they heave it aside, revealing Halie's arm beneath. "Can you hear us?" Merrin asks urgently, her voice cracking with emotion. "We're going to get you out of there." She looks around frantically for Jeane and Seraphine, hoping their combined magical abilities can help free their companion without setting off the tower's defenses. The halfling lockbreaker takes a deep breath, steeling herself for what comes next. Whatever horrors lurk within these crumbling walls, they cannot leave Halie to face them alone. Merrin's quick hands and sharp mind are needed now more than ever.
I approach the wall carefully, placing my hand against the cold stone. The detection spell pulses beneath my palm, revealing the hidden pathway. "There's an opening here," I say, voice low. "A pocket of space beyond this wall. It might lead around the worst of it." The energy here is ancient and malevolent. One wrong step could trigger something we can't stop. "Merrin needs to rest her knee," I add, eyeing her scraped leg. "Let Halie tend to that before infection sets in. Varrika and I will check this passage—carefully." The air thickens as I speak, and the whispers intensify, clawing at the edges of my mind. I grit my teeth against them. "We move forward, but we do it smartly."
I stand still in the oppressive silence of this ancient place, my heart hammering against my ribs like a trapped bird. The air here is thick with a malevolent energy that seems to press down on me, making each breath a conscious effort. My gaze sweeps over the crumbling stonework, the faintly glowing runes etched into their surface, and the precarious pile of rubble that has Halie trapped beneath it. A shiver runs through me, a primal fear of what this magic might unleash if we disturb it. My mind races, trying to recall every scrap of lore I've ever studied about such places. Some say they are prisons wearing crowns, that the very magic meant to protect is also what keeps the horrors within captive and enraged. I feel a sudden, desperate need to document this, to understand it before we risk any further advancement. My fingers twitch towards my spellbook, but I hesitate. Now is not the time for academic curiosity. It's a time for action.
I turn to Varrika, seeing her solid presence in the chaos. She meets my eye, and there’s a shared understanding passing between us—a grim acknowledgement of the danger we’re in and the necessity of our mission. Merrin is leaning heavily against the wall, her face pinched with pain as she cradles her injured knee. Poor thing. She looks so fragile right now.
My eyes drift back to the runes, their faint light pulsing like a heartbeat. They seem to whisper secrets I dare not hear. The weight of our quest feels heavier than ever, pressing down on my shoulders alongside the suffocating atmosphere of this accursed place.
