As Merrin's boots echo through the tower's depths, the air thickens with an otherworldly presence. The flickering torches cast eerie shadows on the walls, making it seem as though the ancient stones themselves are watching the party's every move. The whispers grow louder, a maddening susurrus that seems to seep from the very fabric of the tower. To Merrin's left, Jeane freezes, her eyes fixed on an ancient rune etched into the wall. The symbol pulses with a faint, malevolent energy that makes her skin crawl. She whispers, "Varrika, can you—"

A low, ominous chuckle echoes through the corridor, making the wooden slats creak louder. The sound seems to come from all directions at once, sending a chill down Varrika's spine.

Halie · Cleric

I descend carefully behind Merrin, my hand tight around the silver holy symbol. The wood beneath her feet sounds like it could give way at any moment, and the air here—something's wrong with it, fundamental wrongness, like reality bruised and bleeding into something else. I'm not feeling brave. I'm feeling scared. But that's what faith is for.

I pause on the landing, my keen elven senses prickling with unease as I scan the pulsing sigils on the wall. The air itself feels alive here, crackling with a malevolent energy that makes my skin crawl.
"The magic of this place is... wrong." I murmur, more to myself than anyone else. My fingers trace the intricate patterns of my own protective amulet, feeling its faint warmth against my chest. "These runes, they're not mere decoration. They serve a purpose, and I doubt it's anything good."
My gaze sweeps over the party, lingering on Jeane for a moment. The sorceress looks pale, her usual confidence shaken by whatever she saw in that corridor. A chill runs down my spine as I remember the stories of what happens to those who tamper with dark magics.
"Jeane," I say, my voice cutting through the eerie silence of the tower. "What did you see? What price did those sigils demand?"
My question hangs in the air, heavy with unspoken dread. I can feel the eyes of the others on me, waiting for an answer, a solution to this creeping dread that fills the very stones around us.
