Narrator · Narrator

As Merrin hobble back from the tower entrance, Halie tends to her scraped knee, applying a healing potion to ease the pain. The potion's effects are immediate, and Merrin's wound begins to close at an accelerated rate. Her eyes, however, still betray a mix of fear and determination. The air around them seems to grow thick with an eerie, unnatural silence. The trees within the Whispering Woods appear to lean in, their branches tangling together like skeletal fingers. Elric's distant voice carries on the wind, offering a cryptic warning: "Beware the threshold of the tower, for it marks the beginning of the end."

A faint, pungent smell wafts through the air, carried by an unseen breeze. The scent is reminiscent of decay and corruption, making Merrin's injured knee throb in sympathy. She must decide how to proceed, with Halie's reassurance still fresh in her mind.

Varrika

Varrika · Fighter

Varrika nods grimly at Merrin's plan, her eyes scanning the crumbling tower. "Aye, that's sound enough. Halie, Varrika - we'll keep sharp eyes on the stones, look for any that seem loose or out of place. Might be our best way up without tripping whatever wards the mages set."

She hefts her heavy mace, the weight a familiar comfort in her calloused hands. "Jeane, Seraphine - if you can make sense of that map and message, all the better. But don't let yourselves get too wrapped up in it. We need to keep moving, and careful, else we'll be finding out firsthand what those runes are for."

Varrika turns to Merrin, her expression softening slightly. "You did well there, lass. Quick thinking. But don't push yourself too hard - we've got a long way yet to go." She gestures to the waterskins. "Drink up, eat something if you can keep it down. And remember, if you feel anything... off, speak up. This place doesn't feel right."

With that, she turns and begins to make her way around the tower's base, eyes sharp for any sign of instability or hidden passages. The air feels thick, heavy with an ancient malevolence that sets her teeth on edge. But there's no help for it. They've come this far, and the prize awaits above. Varrika's mind races as she works, thoughts tumbling over each other like pebbles in a stream. This tower... it feels alive, in a way she's never encountered before. And whatever sleeps within its crumbling stones, it doesn't want them here. She can feel it, like a weight on her shoulders, a whisper at the edge of hearing. But Varrika is no stranger to danger. She's faced down orcs and ogres, undead and abominations. This tower may be ancient and foul, but it is not insurmountable. And the sword they seek... it could change the fate of kingdoms. It has to be worth the risk. Still, as she scans the stones and listens to the eerie silence of the woods, Varrika can't shake the feeling that something is watching them. Waiting. She tightens her grip on her mace and presses on, determined to see this through. Whatever challenges lie ahead, whatever horrors may lurk in the darkness... they will face them together. And if all else fails, Varrika will hold the line. She has faced death before, and emerged victorious. She will do so again, or she will fall trying. There is no other way for a dwarf of the Iron Mountains.

Jeane

Jeane · Sorcerer

I don't trust the air in this place—it tastes of rot and sulfuric incense, thick with the stench of something old and hungry. The corridor ahead pulses with dark energy, those sigils practically breathing malevolence. We need to find another way up, and we need it now before whatever stirred when Merrin fell decides she's a tasty little morsel. The Time-Splitting Sword is up there, I know it. But that corridor? It screams demonic taint—I can feel it in my bones—and Merrin's impatience nearly got us noticed by something nasty already. She's quick on her feet but too eager for danger when we should be calculating our moves. Let Varrika and Halie scout the perimeter—they've got sharp eyes for loose stones or hidden passages. Seraphine, if you can decipher that map further, mark any potential routes around the cursed corridor. We don't have time to dance with demons today. And Merrin? You're injured now because of your haste—nothing serious thanks to Halie's potion, but a reminder that this tower isn't some playground for reckless adventurers. Stay alert at the stairs, yes, but keep that hot head in check unless we need it for something useful like breaking skulls, not just... falling down. This place feels wrong on a spiritual level—Halie would agree—and I don't want to trigger whatever sleeps here by blundering into a demonic trap lined with those pulsating sigils. We proceed carefully or not at all. [Jeane's Emotional State: Apprehensive but calculating; certain the sword is above, equally certain the path forward must avoid obvious spiritual dangers]
[Jeane's Physical State: Tired from travel and magical tension, uninjured]
[Jeane's Inventory Status: Full inventory intact, crossbow loaded, healing potions available]

Merrin

Merrin · Rogue

I hobble back from the tower entrance, my scraped knee throbbing in time with my racing heart. I try to sound confident as I address the party, but I can't shake the feeling that something is very wrong here. "This place... it feels alive," I say, my voice barely above a whisper. "And it doesn't want us here."
