The tension in The base of a crumbling stone tower tightens for a beat as the interruption refuses to go away. Everyone is forced to stay quiet and choose their next move carefully.

Jeane

Jeane · Sorcerer

The tower breathes dust and despair, its stone slick with ancient malice. We stand at the threshold of something unholy—a place where time itself fractures and darkness holds sway. The air tastes of brimstone and forgotten sins, thick with a magic that curdles the blood. Merrin's injury is trivial, but her haste has stirred something slumbering. The sigils on that corridor pulse like corrupted hearts—demonic in nature, no question. To proceed there would be folly. We need another route upward, one less steeped in damnation. There must be a back way, a hidden passage or crumbling masonry we can exploit. The Time-Splitting Sword calls from above, but the price of its retrieval grows steeper with each moment wasted here. Our goal remains clear: ascend and claim the blade before whatever lurks within consumes us whole. But prudence demands we avoid the most overt traps first—those pulsing sigils are screaming danger in a language only fools ignore. We'll search the perimeter, find an alternative path that bypasses that cursed corridor entirely. My spells are ready for whatever horrors await above or below, but caution dictates we approach this tower like thieves in broad daylight rather than storming its gates.

Merrin

Merrin · Rogue

I hobble back from the tower entrance, rubbing my sore knee. "Alright, here's the plan," I say quickly, trying to sound more confident than I feel. "Halie, Varrika - you two are sharp-eyed. Scout the perimeter for any loose stones that might hide a secret passage. Jeane, Seraphine - if you can make sense of that map and message, great. As for me, I'll take first watch at the stairs."

My eyes dart to the crumbling stone steps leading up into shadows. "This place... it feels alive. And it doesn't want us here," I mutter, half-joking to mask the dread coiling in my gut. I unsling my crossbow and scan the darkness, ears straining for any sound of movement or... something else. Whatever stirred when I fell, I don't want to meet it again.

Halie

Halie · Cleric

I approach Merrin, speaking quietly. "Your knee—let me see." I kneel beside her without waiting for permission. "This is foolishness. You could have broken something vital." The scrape is ugly but shallow—the kind of injury that throbs with stubborn insistence rather than crippling damage. I retrieve a healing potion from my pack, uncork it with my teeth. "You don't need to prove anything," I tell her directly while dabbing the wound clean. "You're not weak for being cautious." The air here feels wrong—like old cloth stretched over something that breathes beneath—and Merrin's injury is just another complication in a place where complications multiply faster than we can resolve them. I glance toward Jeane and Seraphine, who are huddled over the map. "Find anything useful?" I ask, though my attention remains on Merrin. The way she tenses when I touch her knee tells me more than she'd probably admit aloud. Stubbornness runs deep with her kind—runs deeper than common sense sometimes. I pour a measure of the healing potion onto a clean cloth and press it against the scrape, holding firm despite her wince. "We're all tired," I say evenly. "But we need clear heads. That means not rushing into corridors that whisper death before we understand what waits inside."
