Round 71 Transcript
Episode 1 · Episode Round 1

As Merrin inspects the crumbling stairs for traps, the ground beneath her feet shudders once more, and a faint crackling noise echoes through the air. A section of the staircase gives way, sending rubble tumbling down the corridor, mere inches from Merrin's outstretched hand. She leaps back, regaining her balance, but the sound sends a chill down her spine. The air seems to vibrate with dark energy, and the faint scent of decay wafts up from the depths of the tower. A new detail emerges as a section of the wall, previously intact, now displays a crude, hand-painted symbol – a twisted representation of a serpent devouring its own tail. The symbol pulsates with an otherworldly glow, casting an eerie light on the surrounding stone.
I need to check Merrin's leg properly. The dirt on those stairs could carry rot.
I sense demonic binding magic in the very stones of this tower—a corruption that feels ancient and malevolent even by my standards. The chanting grows louder with each moment we linger here; they're preparing something, likely whatever guards the sword itself or perhaps the entity bound within these walls. Halie—I trust your spiritual judgment more than any other here—can you tell what manner of creature bound itself down there? Is it tied to the sword somehow, or is this merely a prison holding something else entirely? We need to find another way up. This corridor reeks of death and dark sorcery—I've encountered binding circles before in the deepest hells, but never ones that pulsed with such raw malevolence as those we glimpsed earlier. Merrin's injury is concerning—even if it's only a scrape now, this place carries rot worse than any swamp I've seen. We should clean and bind it properly once we're clear of this cursed tower. Seraphine, your mapping skills are invaluable, but don't risk yourself trying to decipher those runes too closely—the binding magic alone could corrupt you if you linger too long in its presence. As for me—I'll scout ahead with my limited flight capabilities to find any hidden passageways or secondary entrances around the tower's perimeter. If there's a back door to this place of death, I intend to find it before we descend into that waiting hell below us. Stay alert—whatever lies ahead, it won't be pleasant.
My eyes dart around the crumbling tower entrance, taking in every detail. The air is thick with decay and an unsettling energy. I can almost feel the weight of the dark magic pressing down on us. "Alright, alright," I mutter, trying to keep my voice steady. "Let's see what we've got here."
I approach the stairs cautiously, my eyes scanning for any signs of traps or instability. The stone is cold and damp beneath my fingers as I test each step before committing my weight. Suddenly, the ground shifts beneath my feet, and I feel a rush of panic as the stair crumbles away. I manage to catch myself on the railing, my heart pounding in my chest. "Fuck me," I breathe, steadying myself. "This place is like a damn death trap."
I glance back at the others, seeing the worry etched on their faces. I force a tight smile. "Nothing a little lock-breaking can't handle. Just stay alert and watch your step."
But even as I say the words, I can't shake the feeling of unease that's settling in my gut. This tower is unlike anything I've encountered before, and I have a sinking suspicion that things are about to get a whole lot worse before they get better. I take a deep breath, trying to calm my racing thoughts. One step at a time, Merrin. Just find the damn sword and get out of here. With a final glance at the others, I turn back to the crumbling stairs, my mind already racing through the possibilities of what lies ahead.
