Round 69 Transcript
Episode 1 · Episode Round 1

Merrin's weight causes a section of the crumbling wall to shift further, revealing a narrow, winding staircase that descends into darkness. The air emanating from the stairs seems to vibrate with malevolent energy, making her skin crawl. Halie's voice cuts through the tension as she whispers, "We should be cautious, this feels like a trap."
Jeane's eyes dart towards the runes, tracing warding symbols in the air as she moves closer. She notices that the pulsating energy seems to be responding to her magic, growing more intense with each step. The sound of faint chanting echoes from deeper within the tower, sending shivers down her spine. The ground beneath their feet groans ominously, and a section of the staircase gives way, forcing Merrin to leap back against the wall to avoid a jagged, stone edge.
I heft my mace, scanning the crumbling steps warily. "Careful now," I growl. "That staircase looks ready to come down on our heads at the first wrong step."
My eyes narrow as I catch a glimpse of movement in the shadows below. "There's something nasty lurking in that darkness, mark my words. Keep your wits about you and your weapons handy."
I take a deep breath, steeling myself. "Right then, let's see what fresh hell awaits us down there." With grim determination, I step forward onto the first precarious stair, the heavy stone groaning ominously beneath my feet.
I trace warding symbols in the air as I approach the shifting runes, ready to leap back if necessary. The magic feels wrong—fundamentally twisted in ways I've never encountered before. Halie, can you identify what type of binding magic those are? If these aren't just seals to hold something back, but active mechanisms for dark control, then we need to find another way up, no matter how circuitous or time-consuming.
Merrin eyes the crumbling stone tower warily, her halfling senses on high alert. She can practically feel the malevolence oozing from the cracks in the walls, and it makes her skin crawl. "Alright, let's be careful here," she mutters, more to herself than anyone else. "I don't like the way this place feels at all."
She approaches the tower cautiously, scanning every inch of the crumbling stone for traps or hidden dangers. Her nimble fingers test the weight of each step before putting her full weight on it, ready to leap back if anything shifts. "I've got a bad feeling about this," Merrin says as she presses herself against the wall, feeling the rough stone press into her back. "But we've come too far to turn back now."
She takes a deep breath, steeling herself for whatever horrors might lie ahead. With a final glance at her companions, Merrin steps forward, disappearing into the shadows of the ancient tower. The air in the tower is thick and heavy, pressing down on Merrin from all sides. She can feel the weight of it on her shoulders, making each step feel like a struggle. As she descends deeper into the darkness, the sound of faint chanting echoes off the walls, sending shivers down her spine. It's a sound she's never heard before, but somehow it feels familiar in a way that makes her skin crawl. "Keep your eyes peeled," Merrin whispers to herself, her hand tightening on the hilt of her crossbow. "There's something nasty lurking in this darkness, and I don't want to be caught off guard."
