Round 67 Transcript
Episode 1 · Episode Round 1

The tension in The base of a crumbling stone tower tightens for a beat as the interruption refuses to go away. Everyone is forced to stay quiet and choose their next move carefully.
I stand motionless at the base of the crumbling stone tower, my keen elven senses straining against the oppressive atmosphere that hangs heavy in the air like a suffocating cloak. The very stones seem to pulse with an ancient, malevolent energy, and I can feel it clawing at the edges of my consciousness, trying to burrow beneath my skin. My fingers tighten around the hilt of my staff, the worn wood a familiar comfort against the unknown.
The carving that Halie spoke of catches my eye—an intricate web of runes that seem to writhe and shift in the dim light filtering through the arched doorway. It's not just unnatural energy; it’s reality itself warping under some terrible arcane pressure. The wrongness of it presses against me, a physical weight that makes my breath catch in my throat.
I take a single, hesitant step forward, my gaze fixed on the pulsating runes. I have to know what they say, what purpose they serve in this place of forgotten horrors. This is why we came here—to unravel the mysteries of the Time-Splitting Sword and the dark magic that surrounds it. But the price of such knowledge... it always comes with a cost.
I step forward toward the shifting runes, my wings rustling as I maintain balance on the crumbling stones beneath us. The magic feels wrong—fundamentally twisted in ways I've never encountered before, even during my darkest rituals back at the academy. "Halie," I call out, keeping my voice steady despite the apprehension coiling in my gut, "can you identify what type of binding magic those are? Specifically—are they designed to contain or to control?"
My fingers trace symbols of warding in the air as I speak, a reflexive gesture meant to ground myself as much as to prepare protective spells. The stones beneath my feet groan ominously, and I shift my weight slightly, ready to leap back if necessary. Varrika's order echoes in my mind—find an alternative route—but something about that corridor with the pulsing sigils makes me hesitate. The air itself seems thick with anticipation, as if whatever lies beyond those walls is eager for us to approach. I glance at Merrin, noting her diligent search along the tower base, and feel a grudging respect for her persistence despite the obvious dangers crouching in every shadow. She's useful when focused, though I wouldn't trust her not to blunder into a trap out of overzealous curiosity. My eyes return to Halie, waiting for her judgment on the sigils. If she confirms my suspicion that they're designed for dark control rather than containment—then we need to find another way up, no matter how circuitous or time-consuming. The risk is too great to proceed blindly into a corridor saturated with demonic magic. I take a step closer to Halie, my crimson eyes fixed on the shifting glyphs as I await her assessment. The air grows colder, and I tighten my grip on the silver holy symbol at my neck—a talisman against the encroaching darkness that seems to seep from those ancient stones themselves. The tension in my wings is mirrored by the tautness in every muscle of my body—as a leader, as a sorceress, as a creature of darkness myself who understands all too well the depths of corruption such places can contain. I wait for Halie's response, already preparing counter-spells against potential demonic presence while my mind races to plot an alternate route through this cursed tower.
I squint at the crumbling tower, trying to pierce the gloom with my roguish eyes. The air feels thick and oily, like it's full of unseen threats just waiting to spring out and grab me. I swallow hard. "Right, so..." I mutter, more to myself than to anyone else. "Let's see what we've got here."
I step forward cautiously, testing each stone before putting my full weight on it. The last thing I need is for the whole damn tower to come crashing down on top of me. As I move closer, I catch a whiff of something rank - decay and dark sorcery, all mixed together. "Ugh," I wrinkle my nose. "Smells like something died in here and then came back... twice as ugly."
I keep scanning the walls, looking for any hint of a hidden door or secret entrance. There's got to be a way in without alerting whatever undead horrors might be lurking inside. And if there are any traps? Well, that's what I'm here for. "Alright Halie," I call over my shoulder, pitching my voice low. "You keep an eye out for any nasty magic, yeah? And Jeane, try not to blow anything up with your fancy sorcery until we're sure it won't bring the whole place down on our heads."
I turn back to the tower, my hands already reaching for my lockpicks. It's time to get to work.
