The tension in The base of a crumbling stone tower tightens for a beat as the interruption refuses to go away. Everyone is forced to stay quiet and choose their next move carefully.

Varrika

Varrika · Fighter

The air inside the tower feels heavy, oppressive, like the very stones are alive with malevolence. Varrika's hand tightens on her mace, knuckles whitening. She can sense the ancient magic pulsing through the walls, and it sets her teeth on edge. "Keep your wits about you," she growls, her voice a low rumble in the gloom. "This place feels wrong. Like it's... hungry."

Her eyes flick to Jeane, noting the sorcerer's uneasy expression. If anyone can sense the magical taint here, it would be her. But Halie's warning about the runes worries Varrika as well. She doesn't know much about magic, but even she can tell those symbols are no mere decoration. Merrin's discovery of the hidden door gives her pause. It could be a way past the pulsing staircase and the eldritch energy it seems to radiate. But something in her gut twists at the thought of leaving the main path, even if it means avoiding a potential trap. Varrika takes a deep breath, steeling herself. They've come too far to turn back now. The Time-Splitting Sword is their only hope against the dark forces rising in the land. And she swore an oath to protect her companions, no matter the cost. "Alright," she says, her voice rough with determination. "Let's see what's behind that door. But stay sharp. We don't know what we might find."

She steps forward, mace at the ready, and reaches for the ancient key in her belt. The metal feels cold against her skin, as if it has absorbed the chill of the tower itself. As she turns the key in the lock, Varrika can't shake the feeling that they're being watched. That something ancient and hungry is waiting for them in the depths of the tower, eager to devour their flesh and souls alike. But a dwarf's oath is not easily broken. And Varrika will see this through, come what may.

Jeane

Jeane · Sorcerer

I test the air with my power, tasting the currents of magic swirling through this ancient place. The corruption is fresh—weeks old at most. Someone has been here recently, tending these foul enchantments. Those pulsing runes on the staircase aren't mere decorations; they're teeth waiting to close. I meet Merrin's gaze evenly. Avoid that corridor entirely. We find another route up or we come back later when their power is exhausted. This place feels wrong—I can sense dark presences watching us, hungry things lurking just beyond perception. The stone itself seems to writhe with contained malice.

Halie

Halie · Cleric

I need to get my head right before we step deeper into this place. The air here isn't just wrong—it's like breathing through cloth soaked in grief and rust. I'm not backing down, but I'm also not walking blindly into whatever fresh hell those runes power.
