As Halie moves cautiously forward, her eyes scanning the stones for any sign of hidden dangers, the air seems to grow even more oppressive. The pulsing runes appear to be drawing energy from the surrounding masonry, causing the walls to shudder and crack. A small section of the wall slides away, revealing a narrow ledge that stretches along the tower's exterior. However, this new opening is fraught with peril, as it exposes the group to the open air, making them vulnerable to any falling debris or descending horrors. Suddenly, a gust of wind blows down the alleyway, sending dust and debris swirling around the party. The wind dies down as quickly as it began, but the group is left standing in an unsettling silence, their ears ringing from the sudden gust. The air remains heavy with malevolent energy, making it clear that the tower's hunger is far from sated. The group must decide how to proceed: do they attempt to navigate the narrow ledge along the exterior wall, or do they try to find a safer route up the main stairway?

Varrika

Varrika · Fighter

Varrika eyes the crumbling stone tower warily, her battle-hardened instincts screaming at her to be cautious. "I don't like this place," she grunts, hefting her heavy mace. "The air itself feels...wrong. Tainted."

She glances at Halie, the cleric, seeking confirmation of her own unease. "Halie, what do your senses tell you? This magic in the air - it's dangerous, aye?"

Varrika's grip tightens on her weapon as she scans the shadowy interior of the tower, half-expecting some demonic horror to burst forth at any moment. She knows her role is to keep the party safe, but this place...it feels different from any foe she's faced before. "Jeane, if you're sure about this sword, then we'll follow your lead. But mark my words - we move as one, and we watch each other's backs. These walls may hide worse than mere undead."

She takes a deep breath, steeling herself for whatever horrors may lie ahead. "Aye, the journey's been hard, but it's naught compared to what's to come. We rest now, gather our strength. Then we face this tower's trials together...or we don't face them at all."

Jeane

Jeane · Sorcerer

I feel it too—this tower isn't just old, it's starving. The stone itself is hungry. But we didn't come this far to turn back because of bad feelings. The corridor pulses with dark energy, and I know why: demonic sigils are embedded in the masonry. If we walk through there, whatever bound them will sense us immediately. We need an alternative route—up the exterior wall or through a different section of the tower entirely. Let Halie take point again; her divine sensitivity is our best early warning system against spiritual threats. Merrin, you watch our backs—if something comes down those stairs, we'll need your blades to keep it off us while we regroup. Seraphine, Varrika, stay in the center where I can shield you both if needed. And if anyone starts feeling dizzy or seeing hallucinations, speak up immediately—I have counter-spells prepared for psychic assaults and minor possession attempts.

Halie

Halie · Cleric

I take a deep breath, focusing my senses beyond mere sight. The stones themselves feel wrong—pulsing with a hunger that has nothing to do with life. This place was built for... something else. Something ancient and terrible. Varrika's right: the air is tainted. "We're not walking up those stairs," I say firmly, stepping between Merrin and the yawning darkness of the entryway. "Not yet. We need to find another way—one that doesn't lead us straight into whatever's waiting at the top."
