As Halie waits, listen, and watches, the scratching noises grow louder, but the sounds seem to emanate from the thorns themselves, rather than any unknown threat. The air remains heavy with tension, and a faint tang of decay clings to the sweet scent of blooming wildflowers. Suddenly, one of the thorns snaps, its tip shattering against a hidden stone plate. A small, intricately carved key drops to the ground, followed by a faint click echoing through the narrow path. The sound is like a whispered message, and Merrin's eyes lock onto the key as if drawn by an unseen force.

Seraphine

Seraphine · Wizard

I hold my ground at the threshold of the crumbling stone tower, the air thick with a palpable malevolence that makes the fine hairs on my arms stand on end. The scent of decay and ancient magic clings to every surface, a pungent miasma that feels as if it is seeping into my very bones. My fingers tighten around the carved key in my pocket, its intricate patterns suddenly feeling like a brand against my skin. "The air here," I begin, my voice dropping to a strained murmur as I turn to face the others, "is tainted. It feels alive with malevolence." I gesture with one hand towards the dark interior of the tower, where shadows seem to writhe and twist in ways that defy natural light. "Whatever power was once held within these walls, it has soured into something far more dangerous than mere ruin."
My eyes dart around the small group, seeking confirmation of what I already suspect. The fear is a cold knot in my stomach, but beneath it, a thrill of scholarly excitement courses through me. This is what we came for—the chance to study an artifact of such immense power, even if doing so may cost us dearly. "We should proceed with utmost caution. The maps are unreliable at best, and there's no telling what sort of magical traps or guardians await us within."

Jeane

Jeane · Sorcerer

I smell it too—the corruption, thick and sweet like decaying flowers. Those sigils in the stone, pulsing with dark energy? They're not natural. The air itself feels wrong—like reality is bruised here. We should find Elric again. He'll know what to make of this place.

Merrin

Merrin · Rogue

Merrin's eyes dart around the shadowed threshold of the tower, taking in every detail. The air feels wrong, charged with an unsettling energy. She reaches for her crossbow, fingers brushing the cool metal. "Alright, let's do this," Merrin says, trying to sound more confident than she feels. "Halie, keep your senses peeled. Jeane, hold off on any big magic until we're sure it won't bring the whole place down on our heads."

She steps forward, the heavy mace clutched tightly in one hand. The crumbling stone seems to pulse with an ominous rhythm, as if the very walls are alive and watching. "Stay sharp," Merrin mutters under her breath. "And for the love of... whatever gods might be listening, let's hope this key works."
