As the party stands frozen in the corridor, the air thick with malevolent energy, a faint whispering grows louder, echoing off the walls. The words are indistinguishable, but the tone is unmistakable - a cold, mirthless chuckle that sends shivers down their spines. Suddenly, the ground beneath their feet gives a subtle shift, as if the very foundations of the tower are adjusting to their presence. In response, a section of the wall slides open, revealing a narrow stairway descending into darkness. The whispering grows louder still, and a faint, flickering glow emanates from the depths of the stairs, casting an eerie light on the walls. The air is filled with the scent of decay and ozone, and the party can feel the weight of unseen eyes upon them. The darkness seems to be waiting for them, its presence suffocating and oppressive. What do they do next?

Halie

Halie · Cleric

This air... it's wrong, feels like bruised reality itself. That's not dust on those walls—it's something else, something that's living and decaying simultaneously. I don't think we should just rush down there. Merrin, I know you want to charge in, but feel this place? It's hungry.

Varrika

Varrika · Fighter

The dwarf woman's hand tightens on her crossbow, knuckles white against the weathered wood. Her eyes narrow as she surveys the pulsing sigils on the crumbling stone walls. "By the ancestors," Varrika mutters under her breath, "this place gives me the creeps. Feels like we're being watched by something... hungry." She glances sidelong at Jeane. "You sure about this, sorcerer? That magic of yours seemin' pretty unpredictable down here."

She shifts her weight, the heavy mace at her belt clanking softly. "But if you say we press on, I'll watch our backs. Just... keep that staff ready, yeah? Wouldn't want any more nasty surprises crawlin' outta them shadows."

Varrika's gaze flicks to Halie, a flicker of concern in her eyes. "How're you holdin' up, cleric? Feel like we're walkin' into a trap, but can't shake the itch between my shoulder blades. Something's off about this whole damn tower."

She takes a step forward, the floor creaking ominously beneath her boots. "Alright then. Let's see what's down that corridor. But keep your wits about you, lot. Ain't no telling what fresh hell we'll stumble into next."

Jeane

Jeane · Sorcerer

I feel them too—whatever's festering in these walls. This isn't undead rot, this is something else, something worse. We're not rushing down any stairs until Halie gives us a clean reading. That goes for you too, Merrin—I don't care how twitchy your fingers are getting. Varrika, keep that mace ready but stay put. Seraphine, if you see anything shift on those runes, speak up. Halie. Tell me what you sense about this corridor—specifically. Is the magic alive? Malevolent? Active or dormant? I need specifics, not feelings. If it's demonic dark magic, we're looking for an alternative route before we go stomping into whatever trap they've set.
