Round 21 Transcript
Episode 1 · Episode Round 1

As Merrin edges closer to the dimly lit corridor, her grip on her crossbow tightens. The heavy mace at her belt swings lightly against her leg. The air seems to grow thicker with each step, and the breathing symbols on the walls pulse in time with a faint, unsettling rhythm. Suddenly, a loud creak echoes from the corridor, and the torches on the wall flicker, casting eerie shadows. The sound is followed by the soft scuttling of unseen feet, growing louder with each passing moment. The party's tension ratchets up as they wait to see what emerges from the corridor. The countdown timer on the wall now displays 15 seconds remaining before the trap activates. The unseen presence in the air grows more oppressive, making it harder for the party to breathe.
Merrin's eyes dart between the pulsating symbols on the walls and the dimly lit corridor ahead. Her grip on her crossbow tightens as she takes a tentative step forward, the heavy mace at her belt swinging lightly with each movement. The air feels thick and oppressive, clinging to her skin like a physical weight. "Alright, listen up," Merrin says in a hushed tone, her voice barely audible over the unsettling rhythm of the breathing symbols. "I don't like this one bit. Those runes on the walls...they're not natural. And whatever's down there, it's watching us."
She glances at Halie and Jeane, her expression a tangle of apprehension and grim resolve. "Halie, keep an eye on those symbols. See if you can figure out what they do. And Jeane..." She hesitates, choosing her words carefully. "Keep your magic in check. We don't know what we're dealing with here, and I'd rather not attract any unwanted attention."
Merrin turns to Varikka, her voice softening slightly. "Varikka, you're our best bet for scouting ahead. Take point, but be careful. And if anything comes at us..." She pats the heavy mace at her belt. "We'll be ready."
As she steps further into the corridor, the air grows thicker still, the breathing symbols pulsing in time with her own heartbeat. The crossbow feels heavy in her hands, a comforting weight against the growing tension in her shoulders. "Let's move," Merrin whispers, her voice barely audible. "But stay sharp. We've got no idea what we're walking into."
I peer into the dark corridor, my sharp elven eyes straining to make out the faint shapes within. The air here is oppressive, thick and heavy, clinging to my skin like a physical weight. It feels... wrong. Unnatural.
The runes on the wall catch my eye—pulsating symbols etched into the stone, glowing with an eerie, demonic energy. I reach out a tentative hand, my fingers hovering just above one of the symbols before I yank it back instinctively. The power radiating from them is palpable, ancient and malevolent. This magic... it isn't right.
I turn to Varrika, who has taken up position at the front of our small group. "Varikka," I call out, my voice a low, urgent whisper that barely disturbs the heavy air. "Be careful on those stairs. There's something very wrong with this place."
My gaze sweeps over the others—Merrin with her crossbow, Halie with her holy symbol held ready, Jeane muttering under her breath as she studies the runes. They all look as uneasy as I feel, but there's no turning back now. We have a mission, and knowledge to be gained.
I take a deep breath, steeling myself for what lies ahead. The tower beckons like a siren song of forbidden secrets, promising power and danger in equal measure. With a final, silent prayer to the gods of wisdom, I begin my descent into the unknown depths.
The air grows heavy, thick with an unnatural presence. A chill runs down my spine as I step into the dimly lit corridor, my heavy mace clutched tightly in my scarred hands. The breathing symbols etched into the stone walls seem to pulse in time with my own heartbeat, their eerie glow casting dancing shadows on the rough-hewn walls. I exchange a glance with Merrin, her eyes wide and alert as she scans the corridor ahead. Halie's warning about the dangers of dark magic echoes in my mind, but we have no choice. The Time-Splitting Sword lies somewhere within these crumbling depths, and we must retrieve it at any cost. "Keep your wits about you," I mutter to the party, my voice a gravelled whisper. "Something's watching us from the dark."
I take a tentative step forward, the weight of my armor clinking softly with each movement. The air feels heavy, pressing down upon me like a physical weight. I can sense the unease in the party behind me, but there's no turning back now. We must push on, deeper into the unknown depths of this cursed tower. Only then will we uncover the secrets that lie hidden within its ancient stones.
I peer into the corridor, my crimson eyes scanning the pulsating breathing symbols carved into the stone. The air grows thick with malevolent energy, each symbol pulsing like a sickened heart. This isn't just dark magic—it's demonic in nature, and if left unchecked, it could spell disaster for us all. "Stop," I command, my voice sharp as a whipcrack. "Merrin, Varikka—I don't care how tempting that sword might be. We cannot proceed down stairs marked with breathing symbols without understanding what they do." My wings twitch uneasily behind me. The dark magic here feels wrong, ancient and hungry. I turn to Halie, the cleric whose faith in the Goddess of Light is our only shield against such corruption. "Halie, I need you to interpret these runes. Tell us if they're a blessing or a curse." My eyes flick between her and the corridor entrance, calculating risks. The air grows heavier still, pressing down on us like a physical weight. Something unseen stirs in the darkness beyond—the scuttling feet Merrin heard earlier, perhaps? Or something worse? "Stay alert," I warn the group, my hand already reaching for a spell component tucked into my robes. "Whatever lies ahead, it's watching us."
