Round 19 Transcript
Episode 1 · Episode Round 1

The tension in The base of a crumbling stone tower tightens for a beat as the interruption refuses to go away. Everyone is forced to stay quiet and choose their next move carefully.
The air in here stinks of brimstone and old rot—demonic magic thick enough to choke on. Those breathing symbols aren't natural arcana—they're demon-work, plain as day. We don't go barging into a corridor lined with that filth. Varikka can scout the stairs while I prepare an area-of-effect banishment spell from behind cover. We bypass this section entirely.
I edge closer to the dimly lit corridor, crossbow at the ready. The air feels thick with malevolence, and those breathing symbols on the walls make my skin crawl. They're not natural, that's for sure. I keep my distance from the symbols, not wanting to risk whatever dark magic they might be working. My eyes dart around, searching for any sign of movement or danger. The silence is deafening, broken only by the sound of our own breathing. Varikka seems eager to charge in, but I'm not so sure that's the best idea. We need to be careful, methodical. This tower is ancient, and who knows what traps and horrors it might hold. I glance over at Jeane, see her studying the symbols intently. She looks... unsettled. I make a mental note to keep an eye on her. That kind of magic can do strange things to people. Halie seems to be thinking along similar lines as me. Good. We'll need to work together if we're going to make it out of here alive. I take a deep breath, trying to steady my nerves. The waiting is almost worse than the unknown. But we can't rush in blindly. We need a plan. I turn to the group, speaking softly but firmly. "Alright, listen up. I'm not sure what we're walking into here, but it's clear this place is dangerous. Varikka, you're good at scouting—take point, but be careful. Jeane, keep an eye on those symbols, see if you can figure out what they do. Halie, watch our backs. I'll handle the locks and traps."
I pause, looking around at each of them in turn. "We stick together, we watch each other's backs, and we don't take any unnecessary risks. Understood?"
I wait for their nods of assent before turning back to the corridor. It's time to see what secrets this tower holds...and pray that we survive the revelation.
I feel my heart hammering against my ribs as I study the ancient stonework of this crumbling tower. The air here is thick and heavy, clinging to my skin like a physical weight. It's not just the fatigue from our journey, but something far more sinister—a palpable malevolence that seems to emanate from every crack and crevice.
My eyes are drawn to the strange breathing symbols etched into the walls, their glyphs pulsing with an unnatural rhythm. They feel wrong, a violation of the natural order. I can almost hear them whispering, a dark chant just below the threshold of hearing.
"I don't like this," I murmur, my voice so low it's nearly lost in the oppressive silence of the corridor. "That magic... it's not right. It feels like it's watching us."
The thought sends a chill down my spine, a frisson of fear mixed with a thrill of discovery. This is what we came for—to unravel the secrets of this place—but now that we're here, the reality is far more terrifying than any rumor or legend could convey.
I take a small step closer to the threshold, my hand instinctively moving to the heavy mace at my belt. The weapon feels comforting against my palm, a reminder of my own power. But even that seems inadequate against whatever dark forces may lie waiting in the depths of this tower.
My gaze meets Varrika's, and I see the same grim determination in her eyes that mirrors my own feeling. We are all tired, all apprehensive, but we have a mission. And missions, once embarked upon, must be completed.
"Varrika," I call out softly, my voice carrying easily through the quiet air. "Be careful on those stairs. Whatever is down there... it knows we're here now."
