The air thickens as Varrika ventures into the dimly lit corridor, the silver holy symbols clutched tightly around her neck. The symbols seem to flicker with a faint, desperate light, as if pleading for guidance. She pauses, her mace at the ready, and examines the pulsating breathing symbols etched into the walls. The symbols appear to be a mix of ancient runes and dark, arcane script, pulsing with an otherworldly energy that makes Varrika's skin crawl. The air feels heavier here, as if the very presence of the demonic magic is suffocating the atmosphere. A faint scent of brimstone wafts through the corridor, making her eyes water. Suddenly, the countdown timer begins to tick away with increasing urgency, its rhythmic clicking growing louder in Varrika's ears. The floor beneath her feet begins to vibrate, and a low rumble echoes down the corridor, threatening to unleash a deadly trap.

Seraphine

Seraphine · Wizard

I step forward, my keen elven eyes scanning the flickering runes etched into the stone walls of the corridor. The air here is thick and heavy with a malevolent presence, making it difficult to breathe.
My gaze lingers on the breathing symbols, each one seeming to pulse with a desperate, hungry light. It’s unlike any magic I’ve ever encountered before—this isn’t a simple enchantment or ward, but something far darker and more insidious.
I can feel the others watching me, their silence a palpable weight in the confined space of the entrance hall. Merrin has her crossbow trained on the shadows ahead, Varrika stands with mace in hand, ready to confront whatever lies within. Halie's holy symbol glows faintly at her throat, a small beacon against the encroaching darkness.
Turning back to face them, I speak with a voice that is steady despite the icy tendrils coiling in my gut.
"The magic here... it's demonic. A corruption that seeps into every stone, every grain of dust. We must tread carefully if we hope to survive this place."
My fingers find the cool metal of a small silver amulet at my neck—a simple thing, but imbued with protective enchantments. It feels inadequate now, a child's toy in the face of such raw malevolence.
"I will attempt to decipher these runes, to understand their purpose and the nature of the trap we have sprung. But we must work quickly—the air itself feels poisoned."

Jeane

Jeane · Sorcerer

Jeane stepped back from the corridor's threshold, her crimson eyes narrowing as she studied the pulsing symbols on the walls. The demonic magic here was thick and wrong—rotten, almost, like old meat left in the sun too long. "Halie has the right of it," Jeane said coolly to Varrika, who stood mace-ready at the edge of darkness. "Those breathing marks aren't natural arcana—they're demon-work. Probably a ward or an alarm spell, something that'll alert whatever's inside when we trigger it."

She gestured toward the tower stairs with one clawed finger. "The main entrance is still clear. We can bypass this entire section if you'd rather not dance with demons before your first cup of tea." Her voice carried a note of boredom beneath the words—Jeane was more than capable of handling a few lesser spirits, but there was no sense in poking a nest when they had other options. "Ideally," she continued, addressing the group as a whole now, "we'd have Seraphine or Merrin scout ahead with their ranged weapons while Halie stays back to keep her symbols blessed and ready. If anything comes out of that hole, we want holy fire at its throat before it gets close."

Jeane's wings shifted slightly—an unconscious gesture of discomfort rather than the dramatic spread she used when casting spells. The magic here felt... wrong, in a way few places did. It tasted like ash on her tongue. "Or," she added with a slight smirk, "we could send Varikka in first to draw its fire while I prepare an area-of-effect banishment spell from behind the relative safety of this crumbling wall." Her eyes glittered with dark amusement. "Your call whether you'd prefer the glory or the security blanket."

Merrin

Merrin · Rogue

I edge closer to the dimly lit corridor, my crossbow at the ready. The air in this place is thick with a malevolent energy that makes my skin crawl. Those breathing symbols on the walls... they're not natural. There's something wrong about them, something unholy. "Keep your distance from those symbols," I warn softly to Varrika and the others. "I don't trust 'em."
