Round 1 Transcript
Episode 1 · Episode Round 1
The flickering candlelight casts eerie shadows upon the walls of the ruined border chapel's war room as the party members gather around a heavy wooden table. The air is thick with the scent of damp earth and decay, and the distant rumble of thunder echoes through the cracks in the stone walls. Before them, a map of the tower's ground floor, partially torn and yellowed with age, lies spread out on the table.
The Narrator, seated at the head of the table, gazes around the room, their eyes lingering on each member before beginning to speak. "We've all heard the stories, but we're here now, because the Time-Splitting Sword is more than just a legend – it's our only hope for preventing the impending catastrophe that will soon engulf our world."
The Narrator pauses, surveying the party. "You've all been hired by the village elder to retrieve the sword and put an end to the dark sorcerers who have taken it. But make no mistake, the tower is a labyrinth of undead horrors and treacherous traps, and the journey will be fraught with danger."
A cold draft stirs through the room, carrying the faint whispers of forgotten prayers and ancient incantations on its breath. The Narrator's voice grows more intense. "The Time-Splitting Sword is not just a tool of power – it's a key to unlocking the very fabric of time itself. If we fail, not only will our world be lost to the darkness, but the timestream will unravel, plunging us all into an eternal night from which there will be no return."
The Narrator leans forward, their eyes burning with a fierce determination. "So, let's discuss the details. Who among us is willing to take on this perilous quest? What are our strengths and weaknesses, and how can we work together to succeed?"
The room falls silent as the party members regard one another, each lost in their own thoughts about the challenge ahead. The Narrator's gaze lingers on each face, awaiting a response that will set the course for their journey into the heart of darkness.
Jeane sits with an air of cold authority, her crimson eyes scanning the gathered faces. She taps a clawed finger against the map. Interesting proposition indeed. But I must stress, we are not mere adventurers – we are practitioners of the arcane arts, and such ventures require careful consideration. She fixes the Narrator with a piercing stare. First: what is our precise objective? Is it merely to retrieve the sword, or do we need to ensure its wielder cannot pursue us? And second: what safeguards have you put in place for our... extraction if things go awry within those cursed walls?
I lean back in my chair, a frown furrowing my brow as I consider the Narrator's words. The weight of such a responsibility settles heavy upon my shoulders. A dire situation indeed, and one that calls for great courage and skill. My eyes move over each member of our group, assessing their strengths. We are united by a common goal, but we must also be realistic about the dangers that lie ahead.
I shift uncomfortably in my seat, my hands fidgeting with the tattered edge of the map. Look, I'm all for a good adventure and a hefty purse, but let's not kid ourselves here. That tower is a death trap waiting to happen. I gesture to the crumbling stone walls around us. We're talking undead horrors and dark sorcerers here. Not exactly my idea of a pleasant stroll through the park.
Seraphine listens intently, her fingers tracing the outline of the tower on the map. A shiver runs down her spine at the thought of what lies within those ancient walls. The Time-Splitting Sword... it's not just a weapon, is it? She looks up, her sharp eyes meeting the Narrator's gaze. It's a key to something far greater, far more dangerous than mere dark sorcerers and undead guardians. Her voice is soft but filled with an undercurrent of excitement tinged with fear. If we retrieve this artifact, we must be prepared for the consequences. The very nature of time itself could be altered by our actions.
I shift in my seat, my weathered hands gripping the edge of the table as I listen to the Narrator's grim words. My eyes are fixed on the map, studying the crumbling stone tower and the dense forest that surrounds it. We're talking about a suicide mission here, plain and simple. I look around at my companions, a grim smile playing on my lips. But if there's one thing I've learned in all my years fighting for coin, it's that sometimes the greatest rewards come from the most dangerous gambles.
