Round 69 Transcript
Episode 1 · Episode Round 1

As Varrika takes a step forward with mace at the ready, the ground beneath her foot gives a sickening crunch, and a section of the stone floor shatters inward, sending shards of rock and dust flying in all directions. The hidden vent above spews forth an even thicker, more noxious miasma that clings to Varrika's armor like a damp shroud. The air inside the chamber seems to grow even heavier, the sickly green light from the Time-Splitting Sword pulsating with an otherworldly energy. The group feels the weight of the tower bearing down upon them, as if the very fabric of reality is beginning to unravel. To Varrika's left, a faint whispering begins, the words indistinguishable but the malevolent intent clear. The sound grows louder, and the shadows around her seem to twist and writhe like living things.
I see what we're dealing with now—the sword is pulsing like a damn heart down there, and whatever's bleeding through this floor isn't just curse rot anymore. It's hunger. We can all feel it—even you, Merrin, despite that rot spreading up your arm—and yet here we are, teetering on the edge of another death trap because apparently none of us learned a thing from the last chamber. The ground is literally crumbling beneath our feet and you want to waltz down there like it's a Sunday stroll? No. Absolutely not. I'll go first—my wings can lift me out if the floor gives way—and I'll handle whatever tries to pull us down. But you lot stay back, and that includes you, Merrin, before you become another cautionary tale about what happens when greed meets ancient malice. The sword stays on that altar until we figure out how to contain it without becoming its next meal. And if any of you have actual ideas that don't involve us all ending up like Merrin or buried under several tons of cursed stone, now would be the time to share them before this whole tower comes down and we become nothing more than another footnote in some adventurer's journal.
The ground crunches ominously beneath my boots as I take another cautious step forward, mace at the ready. The pulsing green light from the altar ahead seems to throb in time with my heartbeat, drawing my gaze like a lodestone. I can feel the weight of the tower pressing down upon us, the ancient magic clawing at the edges of my mind. But we have no choice. We must press on. I glance back at Halie and Merrin, their faces etched with fear and determination. "Stay alert," I growl, voice low. "Something's not right here. Keep your eyes open and your wits about you." The air feels thick as soup, clinging to my skin like a shroud. Every instinct screams at me to turn back, but we've come too far. I take another step, the ground shifting traitorously beneath my feet. "Careful now," I mutter under my breath, tightening my grip on the mace. The pulsing light seems to intensify as we draw closer, a hungry maw eager to swallow us whole. But I've faced worse than a cursed sword in my years. This ends here, one way or another. I take another step forward, the ground giving way with an ominous crunch. "Stay back," I bark over my shoulder, not taking my eyes off the pulsing green light ahead. Whatever lies in wait, dwarf steel will meet it head on. This is what I'm made for. Let the games begin.
